Kings Mountain's American G.I. and Dozer will be in tag team action. Other stars on the card in- clude Ric Starr, Mad Dog, The Heartbreakers, Jeff Victory and Chief Jay Eagle. New faces on top at Carolina Speedway New faces finished on top at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia Saturday night. Mike Messer ‘ended Joe Robinson's 14-race win streak in the Thunder & Lightning division while David Taylor was the third different winner in the Late Model division. Johnny Bridges won for the fist time in the Modified Four event and Rodney Bone was a first-time winner in the debut of the Stock Four non- winners class. Robinson's Camaro dropped a valve with four laps left in the race while he was trying to pass Messer. Although Robinson returned to finish the race he was not running on the lead lap where he had to be in order for Messer to win the bonus. Robinson's winning streak began on March 19. Buddy Smith, who won the sea- son-opening Budweiser 100, was the only other driver to win in the Thunder & Lightning division until Messer's victory. He started Saturday's 25-lap feature in the rear of the field, passed Taylor for the lead and dropped out with mechan- ical problems with eight laps to go. May finished second, followed by Johnny Bridges, Dale Stiles and David Chesnee. Wynn Nichols finished second behind Messer, Mark Blanton was third, Shawn Martin fourth and Rick Painter fifth. Abbey baseball camp opens on July 11 Belmont Abbey College will hold the 1994 Crusaders baseball camp for ages 8-junior in high school July 11-15 and July 18-22. The Wildcats are the first Kings Mountain team to win the district three regular season championship since the late seven- ties. The Wildcats won the title with a 3-1 victory over Belmont. David - Clark pitched six innings of shutout ball in relief to earn the win. Leading hitters were Ty Toney, Scott Martin and Kendrick Bell. Clutch defense saved the day as the Kings Mountain club turned four double plays to snuff out sev- eral Belmont rallies. "The people of Kings Mountain should be very proud of this team," said Gaston County Babe Ruth commissioner Mike Byers. “They are a very solid team with no weaknesses. I am especially im- pressed with the fact they won our title with the youngest team in the league." Leading hitters for the year were Clark with a .588 batting av- erage, Toney at .562 and Bell at .516. Scott Martin won the league homerun crown with three. Leading pitchers were Jeremy Cooke and Clark with 4-0 marks. The Wildcats, coached by Hayne Neisler and Dean Clark, outscored their opponents by a total of 145 runs to 26.
