Freedom Fest '94
is July 4 in Shelby
SHELBY - Freedom Fest '94 is
scheduled for Monday, July 4, on
the streets of Uptown Shelby ™i.24
The theme ' is -"Celebrate”
Freedom - Yesterday, Today and
Tomorrow" and will tie in with the
unveiling of a new Cleveland
Tomorrow logo.
Entertainment includes bands, a
children's area filled with games,
arts and crafts and surprises, and
horse painting at the Arts Center.

Raymond Couch named
Campbell Scholar
Raymond Lemuel Couch, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Couch Sr,
of Kings Mountain, has received
academic scholarships to Campbell
University.
Couch is recipient of the Scott-
Ellis transfer scholarship and the
North Carolina Legislative tuition
grant.
He attended Gaston College and
is a member of Chestnut Ridge
Baptist Church.

Youth Orchestra
Kim Sparrow, bassoonist, is
among the new members of the
Charlotte Symphony Youth
Orchestra.
Recently named members were
required to audition for a limited
number of positions in the orches-

The orchestra presents two con-
certs per season in addition to the
annual Youth Festival in May
sponsored by the Symphony Guild

Jerry Bumbaugh
to give concert
Vocalist Jerry Bumbaugh will
present a concert June 30 at 7:30
p.m. at Cleveland Community
College Auditorium.
Bumbaugh is a veteran per-
former with The Greater Shelby
Community Theatre. He sings
tenor in the Choir of Shelby's First
Baptist Church and was a member
of a rock and roll group, "The Four
Bits," which had three sold-out
concerts in Shelby in the 1980's.
The concert is sponsored by the
CCC Student Government
Association and is free and open to
the public.
