William Pressly, DD, 91, of 514 Dogwood Road, died July 10, 1994 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. A former pastor of Boyce Memorial Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain, he was a member of First Presbytery and attended First ARP Church in Statesville. He was affectionately known as "Uncle "Bill" by his friends and relatives. . He was a native of Statesville and was the son of the late Dr. James Hearst Pressly and Mabel Lowry Pressly. He attended Statesville Schools and was graduated from Erskine College, Due West, SC, in 1925 with an A.B. degree. While at Erskine he was a member of the Euphemian Society and a member of the varsity football team for three years. Following his gradua- tion he entered on a teaching mis- sion at Bethany School in York . County, SC, a well-known Associate Reformed community. After teaching for two years he re- turned to Erskine Theological Seminary and was graduated with a B.D. Degree. From Erskine he went to ‘Princeton Seminary in Princeton, NJ, and spent two years, receiving ‘a Master of Theology Degree in 1931. In June of 1931, he went to Greenwood, SC as pastor of the Greenwood ARP Church. After 15 years in Greenwood, he accepted a call to Boyce Memorial Associate Reformed Church in Kings Mountain in 1946. He served two terms on the Foreign Mission Board and one term on. the Home Mission Board. He ‘served as Moderator and Vice Moderator of his two Presbyteries and President of Ministers Unions in both of his pastorates. Other ac- tivities consisted of a definite con- tribution to the work with boys, having served as assistant Scout Master and Cub Master. He was a member and past pres- ident of the Kings Mountain Kiwanis Club. He was an ancient, free and accepted Mason, and was also a member of the Statesville Shrine Club. He worked with the + City Library in both Greenwood and Kings Mountain and served as chairman of the boards. In 1951 he was the Fraternal Delegate to the United Presbyterian Church which met at Des Moines, Iowa. . Rev. Pressly served 46 years in the ministry and proclaimed the Gospel without benefit of a single note. He was a good humored min- ister and had a fine sense of humor. He preached in several states of the Union, Mexico, on Mars Hill which Paul made famous, and in Pakistan. Like his father before him, he worked hard in the min- istry, and never went to Synod without an addition in members from the previous year. While at- tending the School of Theology at Princeton for nine summers, he en- joyed the greatest men in the Gospel Ministry from the United States and those from beyond the seas. He and his father accumulat- ed a total of 100 years of service as ministers in the ARP Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Cowan Pressly of the home; a son, James A. Pressly of Charlotte; a daughter-in-law, Georgia R. Pressly of Charlotte; two brothers, Rev. Henry E. Pressly, DD, and Dr. C. Lowry Pressly, MD, of Charlotte; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Pressly Moses of Deland, Fla.; and three grandsous, William Jackson Pressly, John Lowry Pressly, and Paul Eaton Pressly. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. James L. Pressly and Dr. David Pressly; and five sis- ters, Mrs. Frances Hamilton, Mrs. Katherine Graham, Mrs. Mabel Baird, Mrs. Jean Ashburn and Mrs. Julia Holland. A memorial service was: con- ducted by the Rev. Robert E. Sherer Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First ARP Church. Prior to the service, BADCOCK WILL TREAT YOU RIGHT! burial was in Oakwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers were David Pressly Jr., Edwin Pressly, Jim Ashburn, Dr. Jody Inglefield, John Knox McGill, and Hamilton McGill. TIM HORD CHARLOTTE - Timmon "Tim" Nicholas Hord, 85, died July 5,1994. A Kings Mountain native, Hord received a master of photography degree from Professional Photographers of America in 1959. He started his first studio in Kings Mountain in 1936; moved to Shelby in 1939 and then to Charlotte in 1954. He was a life member of Professional Photographers of North Carolina and was a former member of Charlotte Rotary Club and a mem- ber of Myers Park Country Club. Survivors are his wife, Aileen; one son, Jimmy Hord of Lancaster, SC; three daughters, Mrs. Diane Bechtold of Avon Lake, Ohio, Mrs. Tereasa Baker and Mrs. Timmy Cannon; two brothers, L.. C. Hord Jr. of Gastonia and Paul Hord of Kings Mountain; one sister, Jessie Pennington of Winston-Salem; and five grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church where he was a charter member. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. "Don" Johnson, 65, died Friday, July 7, 1994 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. A native of Dillon, SC, he lived in Kings Mountain until 1980, when he moved to the Edward Community of Beaufort County. He had recently made his home in the Core Point Community. He had been employed by Foote Mineral in Kings Mountain and Bost Bakery in. Shelby for a num- ber of years. WADESBORO - Addison Moore Sr., 72, 330 Park Road, died Sunday, July 10, 1994 at his home. A native of Chesterfield, SC, he was the son of the late Elisha E. and Mary Liza Peguese Moore. He resided most of his life in Wadesboro. He was an active member of Wade United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and served as Trustee, Lay Delegate, and on the Building Committee. He was ac- tive in building the present church in 1949. He was self-employed as owner of Anson Pest Control and of Addison Moore & Son Painting Contractors. In 1987 he received a Governor's Award from Gov. James Martin as an outstanding Volunteer in Service for seeing that all schools in Anson County were air conditioned. He had the reputa- tion in Anson County of being a person who helped everybody. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Irene Brock Moore of the home; two sons, Addison Moore Jr. and Ted Moore of Wadesboro; three daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Mary Katherine) Hicks of Kings Mountain, ' Mrs. Lynda Jean Rutherford of Charlotte and Mrs. Vivian Wiggins of Lilesville; two brothers, A.W. Moore and Billy Joe Moore of Cheraw, SC; four sis- ters, Mrs. Azzeline McArthur of Fayetteville, Mrs. Mildred Sellers of Cheraw, SC, Mrs. Mary Lou Avant of Charlotte, and Mrs. Sara Harrington of Wadesboro; 14 grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. "We're not ready to give up yet and we are working feverishly to keep the Clinic open," said Neal. Longtime physician Dr. Charles Adams finishes up his duties at McGill Clinic this week. "We have no plans to close McGill Clinic immediately,” said Neal. Kings Mountain Hospital leased the Clinic from Dr. John C. Gill this spring and has been paying doctors to staff it.
