Page 2A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, July 28, 1994 Obituaries ADDIE G. GRIER Addie Gibson Grier, 72, of 130 Lake Montonia Road, King Mountain. died July 20, 1994 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A native of Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Maidie McConneaughey Gibson, and wife of the late L.A. Grier. She was employed by Kings Mountain District Schools for 32 years, retiring in 1977. She was a graduate of J.C. Price High School, earned her B.S. degree from Winston-Salem State and her M.S. from New York University. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Bennett of Virginia Beach, VA; a brother, Fred Gibson of Salisbury; and a sister, Mary G. Dawkins of Salisbury. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Lynn McDowell Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial was in Long Branch Baptist Church cemetery in Grover. HELEN H. WARE # , Helen Houser Ware, 73, of 602 Meadowbrook Road, “Kings Mountain, died July 24, 1994 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Cherryville, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Eunice Becknell Houser. She was a retired seamstress. She was a mem- ber of First Baptist Church and was a volunteer for Cleveland County Hospice. : She is survived by her husband, Leonard Ware of Kings Mountain; a son, Robert William Ware of Gambrills, Md.; a daughter, Peggy Ware Johnson of Charlotte; three brothers, Ben Houser of Cherryville, Bob Houser of Athens, Ga., and Henry Houser of Mobile, Ala.; four sisters, Ruth Austin of Charlotte, Evelyn Wallace of Gastonia, Clara Warwick of Jacksonville, Fla., and Elizabeth Kirchner of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by Dr. John Sloan Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Harris Chapel. Burial was in Bethlehem Baptist Church ceme- tery. k Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 201 W. Marion Street, Shelby, NC 28150; or to First Baptist Church, W. King St., Kings Mountain, NC 28086. BRYTE ROSS WARE Bryte Ross Ware, 91, of Courtland Terrace, died July 21, 1994 in Gastonia. A native of Kings Mountain, she was widow of William Lawrence Ware and was the daughter §f the late Plato Osborne and ‘Julia McKinley Ross. She was a member of Kings Mountain Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, William P. Ware of Charlotte and Eugene Ware of McGrady; one sister, Laura Barnett of Lincolnton; seven grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Saturday at 4 p.m. at Harris Chapel. Rev. Bob Murdock offici- ated. Burial was in Patterson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. &1 i EUGENE HOVIS Eugene Hovis, 55, of 556 Waco Road, Kings Mountain, died July 25, 1994 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late John and Novella Harmon Hovis and was employed as a custodian at Gardner Park School in Gastonia and Fredrickson Motor Lines. He is survived by two sisters, Miss Betty Hovis of Charlotte and Mary Harmon of Gastonia; one niece and one nephew. A graveside service was con- ducted by the Revs. Bryan Taule and Buford Kaylor Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Patterson Grove Baptist Church, 301 Oak Grove Road, Kings Mountain, NC 28086. HERMAN CASH Herman Toy Cash, 68, of 111 Herman Ct., Kings Mountain, died July 26, 1994 at Carolinas Medical Center. A native of Hall County, Ga., he was the son of Henry Melvin Cash of Shelby and the late Annie Pheagin Cash. He was former own- er of Cash Grocery and an employ- ee of Dennis' #3. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Betty Allen Cash of the home; two daughters, Marlene Reynolds and husband Johnny C. Reynolds and Robin Faris and husband Ted Faris, all of Kings Mountain; four grandchil- dren, Stacey Reynolds, Mindy Reynolds, J.J. Walker and Taylor Faris; four brothers, Howell Cash, Kenneth Cash and Paul Cash, all of Shelby, and Chester Cash of Holden Beach; and four sisters, Reba Davis and Eloise Hamrick of Shelby, Hazel Wray of Blacksburg, SC, and Virginia Ryan of Rockville, MD. The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. David Green and D.H. Lutz Thursday at 3 p.m. at El Bethel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church ceme- tery. Memorials may be made to El Bethel United Methodist Church, El Bethel Church Road, Kings Mountain, NC 28086. DOYLE S. BURTON Doyle S. Burton Sr., 57, of 405 Brice Street, Kings Mountain, died July 26, 1994 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Andrew and Virginia Falls Burton. He was a retired landscaper and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He is survived by his wife, Janell Bedsole Burton; two sons, Doyle S. "Buck" Burton Jr. and Carl Allen Burton of Kings Mountain; three brothers, Dorse Burton, Clarence Burton and Dean Burton of Kings Mountain; four .sisters, Thelma Sellers, Shirley Rucker and Ruby Warlick of Kings Mountain and Avil Sellers of Cherryville; and three grandchil- dren. The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Dan Silver and Mike Chambers Thursday at 4 p.m. at Patterson Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church ceme- tery. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home. FLOSSIE M. POWELL Flossie Mills Powell, 69, of 202 Fulton Road, Kings Mountain, died July 24, 1994 at her home. A native of Marion, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Nannie McKinney Mills. She was a retired textile employee and a member of Piedmont Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Charlie Powell of Kings Mountain; three sons, Ron Powell of Neptune Beach, Fla., Steve Powell of Gastonia and Chuck Powell of Shelby; a daughter, Sandra Liverman of St. John's Newfoundland; five sisters, Carolyn Humphries of Forest City, Ella Calhoune of Waco, Janie . Moore and Geneva Sisk of Kings Mountain, and Louise Hardin of Charlotte; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. James Mooney Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Piedmont Baptist Church. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cleveland County Hospice, 201 W. Marion St., Shelby, NC 28150. Jay Hart Patterson Sr., 89, for- mer Superintendent of Kings Mountain Manufacturing Company and Quality Control Officer of Mauney Mills and a former Kings Mountain City Councilman, died July 26, 1994 at Kings Mountain Hospital. . He was a native of Fayetteville, son of the late George B. and Hettie King Patterson. He was the husband of Maude Plonk Harper. His first wife was the late Willie -Plonk Patterson. A member of Central United Methodist Church, he was past chairman of the Board of Stewards. J.H. PATTERSON Surviving, in addition to his Jonathan Brittain of Gastonia received three trophies for playing on the A.M. Rangers baseball team. The trophies were for most valuable player, best sportsmanship, and a two-year playing award. He is the son of Gail Frady and Robert Brittain of Gastonia, and grandson of Mary Brittain of Cherryville and Mildred Costner and Pearl Drewry of Gastonia. wife, are four sons, J.H.
