Margaret Pearson, general chair- man of the event, said that a com- mittee met Monday to firm up the event which will also include a luncheon and participation by gar- den clubs in the city. Six beautiful homes will be fea- tured in the tour, including five in the historic district’ of North Piedmont Avenue, and one on S. Battleground Avenue. A historical display of artifacts will also be fea- tured. Pearson said that more details on the event will be announced later. as well as ticket information. A poisonous snakes program will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the park office. A park ranger will lead a talk about reptiles and participants will view two reptiles which are native to the area. The talk will last about 1 1/2 hours. An owl outing will be held at 9 p.m. Participants will go on a search for sights and sounds of three owl species living around the park. Mike Peters, a park volun- teer, will lead the program. Participants should wear comfort- able walking shoes. The program will last about 1 1/2 hours and will be limited to 20 people. " Encampment set at Military Park A group of Overmountain Victory Trail Association members and a company of overmountain men will be encamped at Kings Mountain Military Park Saturday and Sunday, August 20-21. Interpretive talks and firing demonstrations will be presented at 10:30 a.m., and 1, 2 and 4 p.m. on Saturday and at 10 a.m. Sunday. The Association was instrumen- tal in getting the Overmountain Victory Trail established as a National Historic Trail and annual- ly recreates the march to Kings Mountain National Military Park to participate in he annual anniver- sary program at the park each October 7.
