| Calvary Way homecoming | set Sunday Calvary Way Holiness Church will celebrate homecoming Sunday, August 21 at 1 p.. at the Grover Community Center. Friends and former members are invited to attend and take a well- filled basket. Rev. Clifton Morgan is pastor. The church began on August 19, 1984 as Wayside Church of the Living God Mission. The church opened its doors in a rented build- ing on Highway 74 near Kings Mountain. There were only four people present that day. Three years later the church was set in order as a full-fledged church in the Living God Conference. In October, 1989, the church moved to another building on Longbranch Road. Through the years at least six members have been called into the ministry. Only July 10, 1994, the last ser- vice as Wayside Church of the 8 ‘Living God was held. The congre- - gation left the Church of the Living God Conference and became an Independent Holiness Church. The church is still located in the same building on Longbranch Road. Gospel singing set at tside Baptist The Rogers Sisters of Shelby will be in concert Sunday, August 21 at 7 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church, 161 South, Kings Mountain. The public is invited. Appreciation service set for music minister An appreciation service will be given for Kevin Smith, minister of music at Vestibule A.M.E. Zion Church, Sunday, August 21, at 3 p-m. Rev. Cornelius Bell is the pastor. Scott Gordon to sing at Church of Nazarene Scott Gordon of Pineville will present a program of sacred music at the morning worship service of First Church of the Nazarene, 405 S. Cherokee Street, August 21 at 10:45 am. The public is invited. A free-will offering will be received. Art exhibition set at Cleveland Cleveland Community College will host the works of Shelby na- . tive Jane Haw during the month of September in The Gallery on the CCC campus. Haw has several publications to - her credit and has participated in numerous exhibits. She serves as a lecturer at the Ben Shahn Galleries at William Paterson College. BW CCC will offer a new elective ! course available to college transfer and general education students be- ginning during the fall quarter. Introduction to Geography will meet each Tuesday and Thursday. Greater Tuna is a satirical comedy featuring two male actors who portray all the characters in Tuna, Texas. The play pokes good- natured fun at everyone - conserva- tives, liberals, politicians, commu- nity citizens, etc. The adult comedy has become a perennial of theatre companies and community the- atres. It has established an in- ternational charity to which all chapters donate money. The charity is called "Heartspring," a hospital in Wichita, Kansas, which treats speech and hearing impaired chil- dren. From that comes the group's slogan, "We#sing that they may & A NR speak.” All monies collected are donated to either the Heartspring Hospital or to a local charity. No money is kept for the group. Approximately 25 members of the Carolina Moonlighters will be pre- senting "sermon in song" at St. Matthew's. Dr. Joe Glass will be giving a verbal message unifying the varied musical offerings into a single theme.
