Leonard was hired July 11 by Insignia Management Corporation, which ‘owns the facility. Entertainment for the event in- cluded sing-a-longs led by summer interns from Kings Mountain Baptist Association; Ms. Jean the Clown, The Greenville Marching Corps of Charlotte and Christy Walker. Teachers were volunteers from the community churches and included Rev. John Houze, Bertie Pulkkinen to study |i in Costa Rica Bethany Pulkkinen caught o Kings Mountain caught a fligh from Charlotte to Miami August 2 for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunit to join 29 other college student with the Christian Colleg Coalition on a trip to San Jose Costa Rica, to spend their fall | semester in the Latin American Studies Program. Christian college students from around the United States are select- ed for the educational program through an application process to experience and learn from the Latin American culture. Bethany will live with a Costa Rican family, study Spanish in class as well as in the cultural set- ting of San Jose and her host fami- ly. She will take two seminar courses, required of all students, BETHANY PULKKINEN : entitled "Central America: Its Problems and its Promise" and "Faith and Practice in Latin America." The program will also provide practical experience in in- ternational marketing. All of this will furnish 16 hours credit toward her Bachelors degree in Marketing. All credits will be given by Olivet Nazarene University, Kankakee, Illinois, where Bethany is a rising | junior. During the summer, she has £ worked as'a waitress at Cracker Barrel Restaurant and part-time at Reliance Electric to help with her college expenses. After a very busy summer, she took a week's vaca- tion to rest, care for final arrange- ments and pack her bags. Bethany is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Robert Pulkkinen of Kings Mountain. Doctors join staff at Gaston memorial Lavern Jones, MD, and Mikell Jarratt, MD, have joined the medi- cal staff at Gaston Memorial Hospital. Dr. Jones, an obstetrician and gynecologist, has joined Gaston Women's Health Care in Gastonia. Jones received her undergradu- ate degree from Duke University and her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. She completed her in- ternship in family practice medicine at Carolinas Medical Center and her residency in obstet- rics and gynecology at Tulane University Medical Center, New Orleans. Dr. Jarratt, an internist, joined Gastonia Medical Specialty Clinic in Gastonia. Jarratt received his undergradu- ate degree from Millsaps College, Jackson, Ms. and his medical de- gree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson. He completed his intern- ship and residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in pul- monary and critical care medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Orientation Day set at Twelve Oaks Academy Twelve Oaks Academy begins its 27th year with opening day on Tuesday, September 6. Tuesday will be Orientation Day with class- es dismissing at 11 a.m. Twelve Oaks is a private day school specializing in small classes Clary reception set at KM Country Club A reception and fund raiser for N.C. House candidate Debbie Clary will be held Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Kings Mountain Country Club. Clary is a candidate in the 48th House race which includes all of Cleveland County.
