A native of Spartanburg, S.C., he was the son of the late Alfred Bobo Prince St. and Katherine Alexander Prince, and was the hus- band of the late Mary Dunn Prince. He was a former resident of Kings Mountain and a retired insurance agent, He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain. He is survived by three sons, Millard Prince of Deland, Fla., Jack Prince of Gainesville, Ga., and William Prince of Charlotte; three daughters, Vivian Alston of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Patricia Ledford of Charlotte, and Betty Antonich of Daytona Beach, Fla; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grand- children; and three great-great- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Harold Schwantes "Monday at 11 a.m. at Harris Chapel. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. PAUL G. RIPPY BLACKSBURG, SC - Paul G. Rippy, 71, of 1137 Holly Ridge Rd., died September 13, 1994 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, he was born on December 14, 1922, the son of the late George C. and Della Foster Rippy. He retired . from Minette Mills and was a . member of Mt. Paran Baptist : Church. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth : Nolen Rippy; one son, Richard ! Paul Rippy of Blacksburg; one i daughter, Teresa R. Brooks of Kings Mountain; four grandchil- dren, Richard Rippy of Blacksburg, Crystal Rippy of Columbia, SC, Tommy Brooks of Shelby and John Books of Kings Mountain; and three great-grandchildren, Derek Bell and Carey Rippy of Blacksburg and Maranda Brooks of Shelby. The funeral was conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Paran Baptist Church. Rev. Darrell Revels officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mt. Paran Baptist Church, 105 Mt. Paran Rd., Blacksburg, SC, 28702. MARSHALL CHASE GASTONIA - Marshall Chase, 77, 916 S. Marietta St., died September 19, 1994 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A native of Corinth, MS, he was the son of the late Robert and Irene Chase and husband of the late Geneva Chase. He was a retired textile employee and a member of Bible Holiness Church in Grover. He is survived by two sons, Bobby Chase of Plantersville, Mississippi and Larry Chase of Oceola, Arkansas; two daughters, Sue Dover of Shelby and Sherry Moss of Grover; a brother, Ernest Chase of Mark Tree, Arkansas; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grand- children. Box [18-A, Kings Mountain, died September 14, 1994 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Gaston County, he was husband of Mary Jane Patterson Berry and was the son of the late John Frank and Viola Jane Wilson Berry. He was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, John Frank Berry 111 of Gaffney, SC and Jerry Lee Berry Sr. of Blacksburg, SC; one daughter, Judy Berry Short of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Tom Berry and Dave Berry, both of Kings Mountain; five grandchil- dren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Long Creek Presbyterian Church. Rev. Bruce Davis and Rev. Mitchell Pruitt offi- ciated. Burial was in the church cemetery. HORACE W. BROWN Horace Willard Brown, 75, 603 Groves Street, Kings Mountain, died September 17, 1994 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Eastland, Tenn., he was the son of the late William and Florence Womack Brown. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille Rampley Brown. He was a retired knitting super- visor at Mauney Hosiery and was a member of the Church of Christ in Eastland, Tenn. He is survived by his wife, Clara Ballard Brown of Kings Mountain; a son, Ronnie Dale Brown of Claremont; three stepsons, Albert Cudd and James Cudd of Stanley and Robert Cudd of Kings Mountain; three daughters, Barbara Moss of Kings Mountain, Gloria Horton of Mountain Rest, S.C., and Carolyn Bumgardner of Bessemer City; a stepdaughter, Mary Steele of Stanley; a brother, W.W. Brown Jr. of New Albany, Ind.; a sister, Iva Hobbs of Roswell, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. David Philbeck Sunday at 3 p.m. at Harris Chapel. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. FLAY J. SMITH SHELBY - Flay Junior Smith, 63, of 3400 Fallston Road, died September 18, 1994 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital in Shelby. A native ‘of Rutherford*County;: he was the son of the late John and Missie Swink Roper Smith. He was employed as a fixer at Esther Mill. He was a member and Deacon of Fellowship Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Eloise Black Smith; two sons, Dan Smith and daughter-in-law Anita Smith of Kings Mountain and Steve Smith of Shelby; a daughter, Brenda Childers and son-in-law David Childers of Shelby; a half- brother, Ronald Smith of Shelby; three sisters, Ruby McNeilly of Casar, and Louise Minton and Sue Conley of Granite Falls; a half-sis- ter, Nancy Smith of Shelby; four grandchildren, Jamie and wife Jessica Ledbetter, Mark and wife Susan Ledbetter, Donna Ledbetter and Stephanie Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Brandon, Taylor and Dustin Ledbetter. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. Larry Morris, Bryan Glisson and Harold Beam Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Putnam Memorial Baptist Church. Burial was in Cleveland Memorial Park. McMillan rep plans visit to KM City Hall A representative for U.S. Congressman Alex McMillan will visit Kings Mountain and Cherryville October 3 to meet with 9th district residents and discuss problems with federal government agencies or concerns about legisla- tive matters before Congress. The representative will be at City Hall in Kings Mountain Monday morning from 9:30-12 noon, and will be at the mayor's of- fice in Cherryville Monday after- noon from 2-4 p.m. "I encourage 9th District resi- dents to meet with my representa- tive to keep me apprised of their difficulties involving any federal government departments or agen- cies, including Social Security, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the branches of the military, the Internal Revenue Service, and oth- ers," said McMillan.
