The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Cessna Sharp and the late Mr .and Mrs. Dominic Decosimo. She is a grad- uate of Notre Dame High School and attended the University of Alabama. The bridegroom-to-be is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Rufus = Lawrence Plonk of Kings Mountain and the late Mr. and Mr. L. J. Morris Sr. of Signal Mountain, Tn. He is a graduate of Red Bank High School - and earned his B.A.degree from UTK and his Master of Science degree in - Engineering Geology from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. “ He is Vice-President of Southern Builders Inc. and Vice-President or Paddle Sports, Inc. Free blood pressure checks will Cleveland County Fair opens today Gates to the 1994 Cleveland County Fair open Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds. ' Manager Joe Goforth says "there's something for everybody" at this year's fair which continues through Saturday, October 8, at 11 p.m. The official opening day cere- mony will be at 5 p.m. Thursday on Stage I near the barn. This year the fair is saluting the local news media. One dollar specials are available on Saturday from 9-10 a.m. when everyone can enter the fair for a dollar. Monday, women of all ages will be admitted for $1 all day. Senior Day is October 4 with free ' admission for senior citizens until 5 p.m. A full afternoon of free en- tertainment for senior citizens will include square dancing, Tommy Faile, pig racing, a puppet show and awards. Special days for preschool chil- dren ,disabled children and adults will be October 5 and 6 from 9 - noon. Special entertainment will include pig racing, puppet shows, lumberjack shows, Carla Wallenda and Freddie Pierce. Pianist to perform at Gaston Acclaimed classical pianist Robert Taub opens the 1994-95 Gastonia Community Concert Association season with a recital performance Friday, Sept. 30, at 8 p.m. in the Myers Auditorium on the Gaston College campus in Dallas. The season also includes a per- formance by The Bobs on February 19, two concerts with Jim Miller and The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra at 6 and 8:30 p.m. on March 17 and an organ recital with Frederick Swann, director of music and or- ganist at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California on May 23 at the First Presbyterian Church in Gastonia. Memberships for the series are $15 for students, $30 for adults and $70 for a family of two adults and two more children. Patron level memberships are available begin- ning at $125. Membership admits an individual to not only the: four above-mentioned concerts, but also to four concerts presented in the 1994-95 Casual Classics series, al- so on stage at Gaston College. That series is made up of the interna- tional ensembles Arcadia Trio. The annual Miss Cleveland Fair pageant will be held October 3 at 7 p.m. on the Performing Arts Stage. Contestants are Emily Elmore and Carmill Shade, Burns High School; Stacy DeMaegd and Shawna Chambers of Crest High School; Jennifer Senter of Kings Mountain High School; and Kimberly Williams of Shelby High School. Cheerleaders from the area ju- nior and senior high schools, Cherryville and Bessemer City will perform on October 4 at 7 p.m. and a youth talent contest will be held on October 5 for ages 12-18 and October 6 for ages 5-11, also on the Performing Arts Stage. The Belwood Antique Tractor Pull Association and Dellinger Tractor Sales will present its excit- ing new show in the Grandstand Thursday at 6 p.m. There will be over 60 hookups of original an- tique farm tractors.
