JIMMIE RUTH RHODES
Jimmie Ruth Rhodes died
October 10, 1994 at Gastonia
Memorial Hospital.
A native of Pickens County, SC,
she was the daughter of the late
Walter and Gertrude Lacy Bert.
She was a faithful member of
Mount Zion Missionary Baptist
Church of Kings Mountain, where
she served for many years.
She is survived by her husband,
Carl Edward Rhodes Sr. of the
home; three sons, Carl Edward
Rhodes Jr. of Kings Mountain,
Alvin K. Rhodes of Gastonia, and
Danny Earl Rhodes of
Birmingham, Ala.; a daughter,
Mrs. Carmen R. Brice of Kings
Mountain; a sister, Mrs. Bertie Mae
Jenkins of Liberty, SC; three broth-
ers, Vernell Hart of Charlotte,
Alvin Bert of Liberty, SC, and
William Bert of Washington, DC;
17 grandchildren, and four great-
grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted by
the Revs. C.A. Feemster and T.O.
Feemster October 13 at 1:30 p.m.
at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist
Church. Interment was in
Mountain Rest Cemetery.
BESSIE W. DICKSON
GROVER - Bessie Wells
Dickson, 84, of 111 Gold Street,
died October 14, 1994 at her home.
A native of Cleveland County,
she was the daughter of the late
Robert Lee and Leatha Lucas
Wells, and wife of the late Robert
A. Dickson. She was a retired em-
ployee of Minette Mills and a
member of Antioch Baptist Church
in Blacksburg, SC.
She is survived by nieces and
nephews.
The funeral was conducted by
the Rev. Vernon Craig Sunday at 2
p.m. at Harris“Funeral Home in
Kings Mountain. Burial was in
Grover Cemetery.

WELDON HAMRICK
CHARLOTTE - Weldon S.
Hamrick, 62, died October 14,1
994 at Carolinas Medical Center.
He was the nephew of Mrs. Ila
Morrow Mcintyre of Kings
Mountain.
A graduate of Washington High
School in Augusta, Ga., and
Kings College in Charlotte, he was
an accountant with Mitchell &
Becker.
He was a Sunday School teach-
er, deacon and on the finance com-
mittee at Derita Baptist Church. He
was former president of the
Charlotte Chapter of Accountants,
former secretary and former presi-
dent of N.C. Society of
Accountants and also a member of
the National Society of
Accountants.
He was an Army veteran and a
native of Baltimore Md., son of the
late Vennon Bridges and Nancy
Murphy Hamrick.
Also surviving are his wife,
Clara; one son, Sam Hamrick Jr.
of Wheeling, W. Va.; one daughter,
Susan Lively of Boise, Idaho; and
two grandchildren.
He was the grandson of the late
Samuel O. and Sarah Summey
Murphy of Gaston County.
The funeral was conducted
Monday at 11 a.m. at Derita
Baptist Church. Burial was in
Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.

- KM Baptist Association meets next week

The Kings Mountain Baptist
Association will hold its 144th an-
nual meeting Monday and Tuesday,
Oct. 24-25.
The Monday night session will
begin at 6:45 p.m. at First Baptist
Church, Grover. Special music will
be presented by a choir composed
of ministers of music who serve
churches throughout the associa-
tion. Rev. Lawton Neely, music di-
rector of Bethel Baptist Church and
associational music director, will
lead the choir. New pastors and
staff persons will be introduced.
Guest speaker will be the Rev.
David Jackson, Director of
Missions, Greater Rochester
Baptist Association, Rochester,
NY.
The Tuesday afternoon session
will begin at 2:45 p.m. at Patterson
Grove Baptist Church. The session
will feature special music, reports
by associational committees and
convention agencies. The associa-
tional budget for 1995 will be pre-
sented for adoption. Associational
staff members Leland Kerr,
Director of Missions; Charles
Reed, Director of Church and
Community Ministries; and Bonnie
Doughtie, Church Development
Director, will present their annual
reports. :
The Tuesday night session, also
at Patterson Springs Baptist, will
begin at 6:45 p.m. The session will
be a rally in preparation for the
"Here's Hope. Share Jesus Now."
revivals emphasis in the spring of
1995. The session will also feature
a report by Missionaries-in-
Residence, Rob and Mickie
Norman from Greece. Dr. Roy
Cooper will be guest speaker and
special music will be rendered by
his wife, Dirce Cooper. Dr. and
Mrs. Cooper are Missionaries-in-
Residence from Costa Rica.
Fall Festival Saturday

Cherokee Street Baptist Church
will sponsor a fall festival Saturday
at 4:30 p.m.

Long Creek Church
plans rededication
When fire destroyed their
Sunday School plant and smoke
damaged the sanctuary, the mem-
bers of 214-year-old Long Creek
Presbyterian Church immediately
went to work rebuilding.
That was 10 months ago and
Sunday at 7 p.m. the congregation
will celebrate at a rededication ser-
vice in the sanctuary.
The public is invited.
Police still have no suspects in
the December 1993 fire they say
was arson.
The Sunday School building
burned to the ground and the sanc-
tuary was heavily smoke damaged.
Damages were estimated at
$140,000.
Rev. James S. Welch Jr., pastor,
said the church had insurance on
the building. Donations from local
churches and individuals also
helped pay for the rebuilding pro-
ject which has just been completed.
"We are grateful to our sister
churches Good Hope and First
Presbyterian and to all the individ-
uals who made donations. to help
us put the final touches on our new
Sunday School building," he said.
Long Creek Presbyterian Church
on Route 3 was organized in 1780.
Macedonia Baptist
to host Art Alive
Vince Tharpe, an artistic illu-
sionist, will present "Art. Alive" at
Macedonia Baptist Church in
Kings Mountain Sunday, Oct. 23 at
the 11 a.m. worship service.
The unique presentation includes
both art and music.
"Vince is a most talented artist
who is using his gifts to present the
Gospel of Christ in a most com-
pelling way," said Rev. David
Philbeck, pastor.
Tharpe's new program is called
"The Storms of Life."
Macedonia is located at 1101 S.
Battleground Avenue. A love offer-
ing will be taken to support
Tharpe's ministry.
