A native of Pickens County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Gertrude Lacy Bert. She was a faithful member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Kings Mountain, where she served for many years. She is survived by her husband, Carl Edward Rhodes Sr. of the home; three sons, Carl Edward Rhodes Jr. of Kings Mountain, Alvin K. Rhodes of Gastonia, and Danny Earl Rhodes of Birmingham, Ala.; a daughter, Mrs. Carmen R. Brice of Kings Mountain; a sister, Mrs. Bertie Mae Jenkins of Liberty, SC; three broth- ers, Vernell Hart of Charlotte, Alvin Bert of Liberty, SC, and William Bert of Washington, DC; 17 grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. C.A. Feemster and T.O. Feemster October 13 at 1:30 p.m. at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. BESSIE W. DICKSON GROVER - Bessie Wells Dickson, 84, of 111 Gold Street, died October 14, 1994 at her home. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Leatha Lucas Wells, and wife of the late Robert A. Dickson. She was a retired em- ployee of Minette Mills and a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Blacksburg, SC. She is survived by nieces and nephews. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Hamrick, 62, died October 14,1 994 at Carolinas Medical Center. He was the nephew of Mrs. Ila Morrow Mcintyre of Kings Mountain. A graduate of Washington High School in Augusta, Ga., and Kings College in Charlotte, he was an accountant with Mitchell & Becker. He was a Sunday School teach- er, deacon and on the finance com- mittee at Derita Baptist Church. He was former president of the Charlotte Chapter of Accountants, former secretary and former presi- dent of N.C. Society of Accountants and also a member of the National Society of Accountants. He was an Army veteran and a native of Baltimore Md., son of the late Vennon Bridges and Nancy Murphy Hamrick. Also surviving are his wife, Clara; one son, Sam Hamrick Jr. of Wheeling, W. Va.; one daughter, Susan Lively of Boise, Idaho; and two grandchildren. He was the grandson of the late Samuel O. and Sarah Summey Murphy of Gaston County. The funeral was conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Derita Baptist Church. Burial was in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Derita Baptist Church, 2835 Sugar Creek Rd. Long Creek Church plans rededication When fire destroyed their Sunday School plant and smoke damaged the sanctuary, the mem- bers of 214-year-old Long Creek Presbyterian Church immediately went to work rebuilding. That was 10 months ago and Sunday at 7 p.m. the congregation will celebrate at a rededication ser- vice in the sanctuary. The public is invited. Police still have no suspects in the December 1993 fire they say was arson. The Sunday School building burned to the ground and the sanc- tuary was heavily smoke damaged. Damages were estimated at $140,000. Rev. James S. Welch Jr., pastor, said the church had insurance on the building. Donations from local churches and individuals also helped pay for the rebuilding pro- ject which has just been completed. "We are grateful to our sister churches Good Hope and First Presbyterian and to all the individ- uals who made donations. to help us put the final touches on our new Sunday School building," he said. Long Creek Presbyterian Church on Route 3 was organized in 1780. Macedonia Baptist to host Art Alive Vince Tharpe, an artistic illu- sionist, will present "Art. Alive" at Macedonia Baptist Church in Kings Mountain Sunday, Oct. 23 at the 11 a.m. worship service. The unique presentation includes both art and music.
