He earned the crown Monday afternoon in Bristol, TN after a hard fought year of compe- tition. He qualified well at 7.58 seconds and 178 mph on the quarter-mile track filling the 26th position of the 32-car field. He and his team could only watch and pray as Westmoreland marched through the first three rounds before suc- cumbing to defeat in the deciding round and handing the crown to a jubilant Bingham.
