Page 10A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, October 27, 1994 Reserves' Christmas bonus cut Kings Mountain City Council voted 5-2 Tuesday to pay a $25 Christmas bonus to all part time employees. It was the only vote on agen- da items that the Council dis- agreed on. Council members Norma ‘Bridges and Jim Guyton said they couldn't agree to cutting Christmas bonuses from $65 to $25 for reserve police officers. Finance director Maxine Parsons said the board had bud- geted the same amount of mon- ey. $25, for all part-time em- ployees, including reserve officers, school crossing guards, and volunteer firemen. Parsons said the board had previously approved the pay- ment of the same salary, $7.71 per hour, to volunteer firemen and to the 10 reserve police- men. Previously, reserve police were paid $4.60 per hour. Captain Bob Hayes said that volunteer firemen are paid for the number of hours they work and reserve officers are paid for only 10 hours a month and work 40-50 hours a month. "This is a big dip in my opin- ion," said Bridges. Guyton agreed. He said he didn't recall that Council ap- proved a change in the Christmas pay schedule. Councilman Phil Hager said the city had tightened its belt and he agreed with Commissioner Jerry White that some part time employees also hold full time jobs and that gift certificates go to all employees. Also voting no were Councilmen Rick Murphrey, Ralph Grindstaff and Dean Spears. Previously, Hager made the motion and Murphrey second- ed it that the city authorize the payment of Christmas bonuses to all employees and set the hol- idays for December 23 and December 26. In other actions, the board: Extended the corporate limits to welcome a new business citi- zen, Mike Heath, on S. Battleground Avenue and rescheduled a public hearing for November 29 on Heath's re- quest for a zoning change for Lots 4 and 6. Set the date for the December Council meeting on December 13 at 7:30 p.m. Set public hearing on November 19 at 7:30 p.m. and referred to the Planning Board for recommendations the fol- lowing requests: To consider an ordinance reg- ulating adult-type establish- ments To consider changing the name of Lake Street to Regal Drive.
