We also want to thank the nurses at Kings Mountain Hospital and Dr. Thomas Durham and the staff of Kings Mountain Family Practice. The family of Ollie H. Conner Laddy Sartin, front row, author of "Catfish Moon," was in the audi- ence Saturday and pronounced his play a successful production of Kings Mountain Little Theatre. Second row, Punkin Higginbotham as Betty and Jim Champion as Gordon. Back row, Joe Hullender as Frog and David Jones as Curley. Author of ‘Catfish Moon' says KMLT play was hit Laddy Sartin, the author of the Kings Mountain Little Theatre's most recent produc- tion, "Catfish Moon," was in the audience Saturday at Kings Mountain Woman's Club on the last evening of the show and pronounced it a hit. The Rock Hill, SC actor and playwright and his wife, Anna, who teaches set designing at Winthrop University, their daughters, Mari Anna, 13, and Kathy, 6, obviously enjoyed the show. They laughed along with the crowd. Sartin's acting is not limited to stage. Several weeks ago he had a walk-in role on "Matlock," the TV show which stars Andy Griffith and was en- titled," The Dare." He played a used car dealer in "Down Home," another, TV pro: Toh funeral cerentony on the duction. As long as tie can an femetiber, ! Sartin has wanted to work in films. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1973. He met his wife doing a Shakespeare pro- duction in New York's Central Park. They formerly lived in Kannapolis where Sartin writes poetry and has a number of plays to his credit, including "Blessed Assurance,” which was set in the Civil rights era in 1960. He is most proud of "Roses for Roy Lee" which won him a $8,000 grant from N. C. Playwrights. His whole family is involved in theater. Sartin is working on a new play, "Reason of Mercy" about a Southern family with health problems. He is researching the role of caregivers to add to his plot about Alzheimers patients. A native of Brookhaven, Ms., he likes to write about the South and many of his characters have Southern backgrounds. His po- etry alsa has a-Southern flavor. Sartin says the hardest acting for an actor or actress to per- form is one of total dialogue as evidenced by the four charac- ters in "Catfish Moon." The au- dience is either held spellbound by the dialogue unfolding or are bored to tears. Jim Champion, as Gordon, who falls in love with his best friend Frog's former wife, Betty, played by Punkin Higginbotham, and Betty's brother, Curley, the peacemaker, played by David Jones, and Joe Hullender as Frog, give profes- sional performances in the story of three fishing buddies drawn back to the ole swimming hole where time stands still as they catch catfish. Pine St., Blacksburg, SC * Mon-Sat 9-6 Curley, scared of dying and afraid to tell his friends about his illness, patches up his two friends’ friendship before he dies suddenly at the fishing pier. Gordon's drinking adds to the drama and humor of the play as he proposes to Betty even after he is advised against it by her brother. The violent ex-husband won't give her up to his best friend. Even in the worst of times, the audience can laugh. In the final scene of the play, the three people closest to Curly (David Jones) in life meet again on the fishing pier to cast his ashes in the waters. Gordon, (Jim Champion), however, drops the urn when he loses control of his car and the ashes go with the wind. Gordon re- trieves one ash to take to the of- ake “Curly, however, has the last laugh. He writes notes to his two fishing buddies, asking them to hug and make up and to take a dip in the cold waters of the lake. Champion gets his pants off first and prepares to dive from the pier as Hullender (Frog) unbuckles his belt. Sartin said Director Jeff Grigg cast the show superbly. 11:00 AM TO 8:00 PM Adults $6.50 & Children $3.95 : D ures For Groups Of 6 Or More Banana Pudding ¢ Peach Cobbler Pumpkin Pie » Apple Crisp Chocolate Cake « Minced Meat Pie + Rolls, Tea Or Coffee » » Full | 20 tem Salad Bar W 1-85 At Highway 161 Kings Mountain « 739-2544 PiGEINM) FEAST: BUFFET Roos Turkey W/ Dressing & Giblet Gravy * Baked Ham # W/ Fruit Sauce ¢ Fried Chicken ¢ Roast Beef W/Aujus *3 VEGETABLES Butterball Potatoes Macaroni & Cheese ¢ Candid Yams Steamed Rice * Fried Squash ¢ Broccoli Casserole Green Beans * Buttered Corn DESSERTS LastYear SToys, ThisYear$s By nt 1994 Toys Campaign November 7 — December 9 Do your part to help Santa bring joy to children in need in our community.
