Cochcroft completes Navy basic training Navy Seaman Recruit Joey D. Cochcroft, son of Roy L. Cochcroft of 104 Montlane, Kings Mountain, recently com- pleted U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Il1. During the eight-week pro- gram, Cochcroft completed a variety of training which in- cluded classroom study, practi- cal hands-on instruction, and an emphasis on physical fitness. In particular, Cochcroft learned naval customs, first aid, fire fighting, water safety and sur- vival, and a variety of safety skills required for working around ships and aircraft. Cochcroft and other recruits also received instruction on the Navy's core values - honor, courage and commitment, and what the words mean in guiding personal and professional con- duct. Cochcroft joins 55,000 men and women who will enter Christmas on Farm at KM State Park Christmas on the Farm for Wildlife will be held Saturday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. at the Living History Farm at Kings Mountain State Park. Participants will share the Christmas spirit with the wildlife by decorating a tree just for them. They will make wildlife feeders and crafts and then decorate the tree. The fee is $1 per person. CASEY BROCK BOLIN Casey Brock Bolin celebrates birthday Casey Brock Bolin, son of Kenneth and Tina Bolin, cele- brated his second birthday Saturday, November 12. A party was held at his home. Cake, ice cream and Coke was served. Party bags were given to the guests. Family and friends were present. Casey has two older brothers, Brandon and Blake. He is the grandson of Bill Hughes, Betty B. Carroll. son of Linda C. Ernst of 910 First Street and Larry L. Carroll of Kings Mountain, is currently halfway through a six-month deploy- ment to the Mediterranean and Black seas aboard the destroyer USS Deyo, homeported in Charleston, SC. Since deploying in May, Carroll has been involved*in several Mediterranean exercis- ‘es, and recently participated in Festival of Carols at Eastside Baptist The Christmas cantata "Festival of Carols" will be pre- sented Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church, locat- ed on York Road in Kings Mountain. Presenting the program of tra- ditional and spiritual carols will be the Adult and Children's Choirs. The choir is under the direc- tion of LIz Hill. The public is invited. SNS * ¢ 2\.)'9, the multinational exercise Breeze 94, which was conduct- ed in the Black Sea and in- volved ships from Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Russia, Turkey and the Ukraine. The three-day exercise in- volved humanitarian and peace- keeping operations and a wide range of naval maneuvers, in- cluding naval gunfire, search and rescue, and anti-submarine warfare. It was the first time in modern history that all of the Black Sea nations joined to- gether to conduct naval training operations. Carroll and his fellow crew members have also participated in a number of community rela- tions projects throughout the summer. The Navy and Marine Corps team is designed to operate overseas and respond quickly when needed.
