wan Page 4B-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, December 8, 1994 West School kindergarten students recently presented a special program for their families en- titled '"The First Thanksgiving. " Kindergarten teachers Mrs. Hilda Leonard narrated and Mrs. Sylvia Neisler led the singing. Students sang songs about Thanksgiving and acted out various roles as Indians, Pilgrims and turkeys. Most of the costumes and decorations were made by the students. They also decorated special invitations sent to their families. Symphony loses financial sponsor The Rings Mountain Syihphony has lost its financial sponsor for the annual concert angiis changing its focus to pro- vidé ‘a variety of cultural experi- enges for children and one big confmunity-wide concert every three years. Hallie Conner, chairman of the Kings Mountain Symphony since its inception, said the lo- cal group is charting a new course since the Kings Mountain District Schools can no longer absorb the expense of the concert which has been free to 1,000 students and numerous adults. Members of the committee, including Shirley Austin, Mary Neisler, Helen Hatch and Priscilla Mauney, announced plans this week for a children's production of "Puss N Boots" for third, fourth and fifth grade students on February 6 in Barres Auditorium. The pro- gram will be free to 1,000 stu- dents and will be presented by the {North Carolina Youth Theatre of Greensboro. Blanton said that in 1996 a children's concert will feature the ! award-winning Kings Mountain High School Band CCC adds classes to winter schedule Cleveland Community College's Continuing Education Department has added two classes to the winter quarter schedule. Introduction to Computers begins January 9 and will con- tinue until March 13. The class will meet each Monday from 6:30-9:30 at Shelby High School. Pre-registration is re- quired. Interior Design begins January 10 and continues until February 7. The class will meet each Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. in campus room 2008. Pre-regis- tration is required. Registration is $35 per class. Program will present "Christmas Around the World" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9 at the Kings Mountain Middle School gym. The public is invited. and the vs winning Eiogs Mountain High School Chorus. In the spring of 1997 the Kings Mountain Concert Committee will bring a sym- phonic concert to the stage of B. N. Barnes Auditorium. "We think the children's play in February will be a real treat," said Austin. Neisler said that because of escalating costs, the group feels they must go to a rotating schedule for the community concert. Kings Mountain citizens were ‘treated to performances of the North Carolina Symphony for two years and in the past 10 years to performances by the Charlotte Symphony, an annual spring event. G-W sets auditions for My Fair Lady The Gardner-Webb University Theatre will hold au- ditions for its upcoming musical "My Fair Lady" at 6:30 p.m. each night from January 17-19. A wide selection of parts is available for actors of all ages. Auditions are open to the pubic. Students, faculty and staff of the University are encouraged to participate as well. "My Fair Lady" is a love sto- ry in which a professor strives to make a proper, refined lady out of a brash flower girl, Eliza Doolittle. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. The Board will select a chairman and vice- chairman for 1995. Current chairman is Shearra Miller and the vice-chairman is B.S. Peeler. The Board will also recognize its members for participation in the North Carolina School Board Association Academy for School Boardsmanship. Billy Houze will receive the Level I Certificate of Achievement; B.S. Peeler Jr. will receive the Level I Certificate of Achievement; Connie Allison and Ronnie Hawkins will receive the Level II Certificate of Advanced Achievement; and Shearra Miller will receive the Level IV Diploma of Distinction.
