FHI CARER RRR LEAR ARY NERS) ~ 809 Longbranch Rd., Grover, could spend as much as 14 years in prison as part of the 11-year maxi- mum sentence handed down re- cently in Cleveland County Superior Court for three felony co- caine trafficking convictions. District Attorney Bill Young says the sentence handed down by Judge Jesse Caldwell is the most serious in a drug conviction this year. Roper, a former salesman with C&T Auto Sales, sold an under- cover drug officer 398 grams of co- caine in 1994. After handing Roper $14,000 in cash, officers with the State Bureau of Investigation attempted to take him into custody. But Roper fled in his car, allegedly at- tempted to run down Sheriff Dan Crawford, who was also an SBI agent at the time. Officers took Roper into custody after he wrecked his car in a curve on Longbranch Road. During the trial, jurors listened to audio tapes of telephone conver- sations between Roper and under cover drug agents. p Roper has three prior drug con- victions. New city dog tags are now on sale The 1996 city dog tags are now on sale in the Records Department of the Kings Mountain Police Department. Kings Mountain Records Secretary Theresa W. Tawanda Nakishi Raymond, 18, of 1706 Northwoods, reported that a sub- ject entered her vehicle and threatened her with a handgun, then allegedly dis- charged the handgun in the vehicle rear seat, damaging the 1995 Nissan seat and gas tank $500. King St., reported that a customer forged his name on a Carolina State Bank check and cashed it. Tracey Friday Roberts, 12 Georgetown Apt., reported that the convertible top of her 1994 Chevrolet Tracker was unzipped and two 10-inch speakers and a radio cassette player were stolen. Cablevisi Tawanda Raymond, 1706 Northwoods Dr., reported that her 1983 Honda was damaged $150 by someone striking the vehicle with a stick. City of Kings Mountain, W. Gold St., reported the larceny of water and gas by a customer who broke the. seals off the meters and used them. The theft totaled $137.44 Jorge Andres Lopez, 403-A Waco Rd., reported theft of a cellular bag phone and goggles from his 1989 Chevrolet parked on Waco Road. Yellow Cab Co., 913 W. Franklin, Gastonia, reported that a subject called the cab to take him to Kings Mountain and got out of the cab and didn't pay the $25 fare. WRECKS DEC. 21, 1995 Ptl. S. M. Skinner said that a hit and run driver damaged a car owned by Joey Earl Turner, 111 N. Deal St. The vehicle was parked in the Harris-Teeter parking lot. DEC. 23, 1995 Sgt. Bob Myers said that a 1993 Ford operated by Dana Michelle Lane, Lincolnton, bumped a 1991 Ford oper- ated by Lou Ann Alexander Goforth, Route 2, Bessemer City, at the stop light on Deal Street. Damages were es- timated at $350. DEC. 24, 1995 Ptl. C. M. Kahn said that one person was hurt when a 1989 Dodge operated by Terry Lee Smith,. 4200 Hovis Rd., Charlotte, went out of control at a high rate of speed on a curve on Northwoods Drive. Kahn said the vehicle hit two mail- boes at 1308 and 1310 Northwoods Drive and a guide wire to a utility pole causing the pole to break in two 12 feet from its top. Electricity to the East side of Northwoods Drive was interrupted. Kahn said the vehicle left the scene and was found at 1903 Alpine Drive. Property damages included $5,000 to the car and $1560 to the utility pole owned by the City of Kings Mountain and two mailboxes. DEC. 30, 1995 Ptl. S. M. Mrs. Johnson, who had got into Mr. Johnson's car, a 1986 Chrysler, bumped the front of the other vehicle with the left bumper of Johnson's car. Damages were estimated at $350. Mr. Johnson also fited an inci- dent report that alleges that*he was as- saulted with a deadly weapon causing serious injury. According to the report, which was investigated by Ptl. Larry Ware, Johnson alleges that he was struck in the face and chest area with boiling water. No one was charged.
