DEVENNEY Edward Stowe Devenney. 71, 201 North Roxford Road, Kings Mountain, died January 17, 1995 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of Ocie Wells Deveney of Kings Mountain and the late Adam Lee Deveney. He was a retired brick mason and a charter member of “Resurrection Lutheran Church. ¢ In addition to his mother, he Ais survived by his wife, Marie ‘Falls Devenney; a son, Steve “ZDevenney of Kings Mountain; “two daughters, Jan Ledford of Denver and Lynn Bumgardner of Kings Mountain; two broth- ers, J.C. Devenney of Ft. “Lauderdale, Fla. and Worth Devenney of Crystal River, Fla.; a sister, Sue Allen of Kings Mountain; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. John Futterer Thursday at 11 a.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Mountain Rest, Cemetery. DOVIE C. GOFORTH SHELBY - Dovie Canipe Goforth, 79, 602 Calvary Street, died January 12, 1995 at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain. She was a retired employee of Parkdale Mill, - Kings Mountain, and also worked at Shelby Mill. She was the daughter of the late Winslow and Hattie Radford Davis and was a member of Shelby Missionary methodist Church. She is survived by her hus- band, John Howard Goforth of the home; a son, Audrey Canipe of Shelby; three daughters, Ester Burge of Linden, AL, Thelma Patrick of Kings Mountain and Elizabeth Watkins of Bostic; 15 grand- children and 12 great-grandchil- dren. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. R.L. Predergrast Saturday at 2 p.m. at Shelby Missionary Methodist Church. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery. He was a retired private detective and was a member of American Legion Post 109, and a veteran. He is survived by his wife, Thelma S. Blanton of the home; stepdaughter, Kathy Vinesett of Gaffney; stepson, Charles Campbell; three brothers, John Blanton of Greenville and Joe Blanton and Shelton Blanton Jr. of Kings Mountain, N.C.; two sisters, Shirley Hawkins of Greenville and Pauline Waters of Shelby, N.C.; and five step- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Harold Henderson Saturday at 3 p.m. at Shuford Hatcher Chapel. Burial was in Frederick Memorial Gardens. ELOISE J. HARRIS YORK, S.C. - Mrs. Eloise Jenkins Harris, 92, 961 Oakhill Court, died January 12, 1995 at White Oak Manor Nursing Home in York. A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Washington and Della Broome Jenkins, and wife of the late James Henry Harris. She was a retired weaver with Burlington Industries and was a charter member of Cherokee Falls Church of God. She is survived by three sons, Rev. Howard Harris of Gaffney, Gene E. harris of Kings Mountain, N.C., and Dennis R. Harris of Cherokee Falls; two daughters, Mrs. Joyce H. Vance of Sacramento, Calif., and Mrs. Shirley H. Childers of York; a brother, Wardlaw Jenkins of Lockhart; three sisters, Mrs. Ozell J. Ivey and Mrs. Betha J. Jones of Gaffney, and Mrs. Lillian J. Batchler of Shelby; 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grand- children and four great-great- grandchildren. A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of R.C. and Gladys Childers Bratton of York, and wife of the late Robert Guy "Bobby" Ashley. She was director of operations at Carolina Staff Resources, Inc., and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of York County Cresent Shrine Club and a member of the Financial Womens Club International. She is survived by her par- ents; a son, Robert Guy Ashley II of York; a daughter, Mrs. Robin C. Ashley Johnston of New York City, NY; a brother, Dean Bratton of Columbia; a sister, Mrs. Linda BRatton Pratt of York; and one grandchild. Godfrey's poster is among thousands of entries submitted worldwide in the seventh annu- al Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Out of all the posters created | by Middle School students, Godfrey's entry best portrayed the contest's theme, "Peace in My World."
