Page 6A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, January 26, 1995 Albert Perkins fires a jumper in recent basketball game at KMHS. Perkins and his Mountaineer teammates hope to knock off Southwestern Conference co-leader East Rutherford Friday night at the KMHS gym. Girls lose first in SWC, Mounties win at Shelby Kings Mountain's girls dropped their first conference game but the boys jumped right back in the thick of the battle for first place in Southwestern 3-A Conference football action Friday night at Shelby. The girls, playing without the services of All-Conference cen- ‘iter Karen Queen, who is in- jured, and forward Alica Cole, who is ineligible for the remain- der of the season, fell 31-15 in a game in which Shelby took over sole possession of first place. The boys, coming off a tough non-conference loss to 4-A Crest, led most of the game in turning back Shelby 76-71 and staying within a game of Burns and East Rutherford, both 3-0 in SWC action. Larry Sipe's Mountaineers, who had their transition game clicking as well as it has all year, jumped to a 23-13 first quarter lead and remained on top 47-36 at intermission. Kings Mountain out-rebounded Shelby 23-11 in the first half and 48-24 for the game. Justin Champion led the way with 14. Shelby scored the first seven points of the third quarter to pull within 47-43 but Kings Mountain was able to widen the lead to 62-56 after three quar- ters. Kings Mountain increased its lead to double digits again early in the fourth quarter, but Shelby kept plugging away and cut the margin to 69-66 with two min- utes remaining. The Mour ‘1ineers hit some key free throws and grabbed some big rebounds down the stretch to preserve the victory. Eric Tate led the KM scoring with 19 points. Steve Surratt added 15 and Albert Perkins 13. BM Shelby's girls blew open a close game by outscoring Kings Mountain 15-2 in the second quarter. Kacha Logan led the Lions with 16 points, including 11 in the second quarter. April Putnam led KM with seven. Here's How Real People Tell it. “I get a big kick out of the new commercials about how good heat pumps are,” says Bob Murdock. “I had $8,000 worth of heat pumps and I almost froze to death.” “I'd say, ‘Why don't you turn on the heat?’ He'd say, ‘It's going full blast’” Bob and Margie Murdock just switched to natural gas and they'll tell you natural gas is still your best choice for comfort and value. Natural gas is warmer than any electric heat pump, old or new... and it costs less! “Gas is the way to go as far as I'm concerned,” Bob says. “It's the best. It's just the best.”
