JAMES F. MAUNEY LINCOL. NTON -¢ James Forrest Mauncy. 60. 1379 Coffeytown Road. died Monday. January 30 at the VA Medical Center in S: lisbury. A native of Lincoln County. he was the son of John Wallace Mauney and the late Mary Lou Coffey Mauney. He was a mem- ber of River View Baptist Church and was a band director. He was a 1952 graduate of Lincolnton High School and at- tended UNC-Chapel Hill. He received a B.S. and Masters in Music ~~ Education from Appalachian State University and a Masters in Administration from UNC-Charlotte. He served in the US Army 2nd Armored Division Band stationed in Germany in 1956. He served as band director at several schools in North and South Carolina, including Turrentine School in Burlington, Robbinsville High School in Robbinsville, Walterboro High School in Walterboro, SC, Bessemer City High School in Bessemer City, and Ferndale Junior High School in High Point. He was a member of the NEA, NCEA, MENC and was a past member of the Lincolnton Civitan Club. He was a member of River View Baptist Church and was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity. In addition to his father, he is survived by his «© son, Christopher Kennedy Mauney of Denver; and two brothers, Johnny E. Mauney of High Point and Steve Mauney of Advance. ESSARY MOORESVILLE - William Donald Essary, 57, 604 Oak Street, died Tuesday, January 31, 1995 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. A native of Mountville, Ala., he was the son of Ruth Arnold Essary of Kings Mountain and the late Rufus Essary. He was a U.S. Army veteran. ....In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Nancy E. Essary; three sons, Mike Essary of Maiden and Donald Essary Jr. and Scott Essary of Newton; a daughter, Jennifer Essary of Kannapolis; a step- daughter, Kristen Flemming of Statesville; a step-son, Kevin Grady of Mooresville; a sister, Anne Roper of Kings Mountain; a brother, Paul Essary of Kings Mountain; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Dales Essary in 1992, and his brother, Taylor Essary in 1988. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Bob Matthews Thursday at 11 a.m. at Fieldstone Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Glenwood Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Fieldstone Presbyterian Church, P.O. Bridges Jr.. 70. 1402 Foust Road. died January 28. 1995 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Cleveland County and son of the late Harvey Bill and Ola Mae Rutledge Bridges. He was re- tired owner of East Marion Chevron. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Lee Bridges. He is survived by his wife, Lilly Blanton Bridges; and three sisters, Lucy Deaton, Lucille Wylie and Irene Barnette, all of Shelby. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Max Turner Jr. Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Buffalo Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. GRADY Z. ANDERSON CLOVER, S.C. - Grady Zelark Anderson, 77, died January 28, 1995 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC. A native of Graham County, he was the son of the late John Anderson and Missouri Phillips Anderson. He was retired from American Thread Co. in Clover, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Clover. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Florence Rose of Clover and Mrs. Maybell Taylor of York; two brothers, Wayne Anderson and J.B.‘Anderson, both of Kings Mountain; and a number of nieces and nephews. A native of York County, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Sarah Sherer McClain, and was the wife of the late “Tracey E.-Horton. She was re-. tired from American Thread Ca. in Clover and was a member of the Clover A.R.P. Church. She is survived by two sons, James F. "Buck" Horton of Clover and Scott Horton of Kings Mountain; a brother, Lewis McClain of Charleston, SC; a sister, Mrs. Betty Bennett of Augusta, Ga.; and two grand- children. The 3 p.m. program is spon- sored by the KMHS English Department and is free to the public. Walker is a professor of English at Henderson Community College. She drew information from her book from personal family letters she re- ceived from the late sister of Mr. Marsh. Walker's book offers a new look into Mitchell's marriage to Marsh, their devotion and unique partnership after Mitchell jilted Marsh for Marsh’ roommate, Red Upshaw. Walker said that Marsh was best man at that wedding which lasted only 18 months and has pictures of the wedding scene which depicts Marsh looking at the bride instead of the camera.
