James Oliver Merritt Sr., 60, of 134 East End Ave., died March 11, 1995 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. i He was a native of Catawba County, son of the late Lawrence A. and Alma Mae Woody Merritt. He was employed by Texlon Plastics Inc. in Gastonia. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. Surviving are one son, James Oliver Merritt Jr. of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Vickie M. Austin and Teresa M. Deaton of Kings Mountain; and four grand- children. CONNIE FARRIS Connie Jean Farris, 48, of 806 Unity Church Rd., died March 16, 1995 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A native of Ironton, Ohio, she was the wife of Hershell Farris of Kings Mountain and daughter of the late Raymond and Jean Dillow Blagg. She was Baptist. She was retired from Danaher Tool Group. Also surviving are two sons, Michael and Mark Farris of Kings Mountain; one daughter, Angela Farris of Kings Mountain; one brother, Raymond Blagg of Columbus, OH; and two grand- children. The funeral was conducted Sunday at 2 p.m at Harris Chapel by Rev. W. H. Calvert. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. BEATTY LAWNDALE - Dennis Gold Beatty, 50, 131 Latham Wilson Road, died March 18, 1995 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Oree Terry Beatty of Kings Mountain and the late Therman Gold Beatty. He was owner and operator of Medi-Fare Drug, Grover, and was a graduate of the North Carolina School of Pharmacy at Chapel Hill. He was a member of Fallston Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday School teacher for Youth grades 9- 12. In addition to his mother, he is survived by. his wife, Janice Bridges Beatty of Lawndale; a son, Brian Beatty of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Paul Weeks of Lawndale; two brothers, Norris Beatty and Larry Beatty of Shelby; three sisters, Deloris Curry, Anita Beatty and Rita Stafford of Kings Mountain; and a grand- daughter, Morgan Elizabeth - Weeks. The funeral was conducted by Dr. Bill Jordan Monday at 2 p.m. at Fallston Baptist Church. Burial was in El Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Kings Mountain. . He was a native of Cleveland County and son of the late Collet and Dora Arrowood Huntsinger. He was a member of East Gold Street Wesleyan Church and a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Phillipine Islands during World War II. He was a renowned brick- mason and owner-operator of sev- eral service garages in Kings Mountain until he retired. He was preceded in death by a son, Gene Huntsinger. Survivors include his wife, Helen Gregory Huntsinger of the home; two sons, Arnold Huntsinger of Wilmington and Rick Huntsinger of Gastonia; a daughter, Geraldine Beam of Kings Mountain; a daughter-in-law, Jan Huntsinger of Kings Mountain; three brothers, Garland Huntsinger and Arnold Huntsinger of Bessemer City and Elmer Huntsinger of Kings Mountain; a sister, Faye Fraley of Hickory; seven grandchildren, Mark, David, Chad, Todd and Emily Huntsinger, and Rodney and Rhonda Beam; and three great-grandchildren, Allen-Michael, Alexander and Harrison Beam. "Bill" Cobb, 62, 5103 Canterbury Road, died March 20, 1995 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Mrs. Floy Jolly Cobb of Cherryville and the late Roddy Lee Cobb. He was em- ployed by Hoechst Celanese Corp. and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He attended Faith Baptist Church. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Edith Gordon Cobb; three sons, Scott Cobb, Gary B. Cobb and Gordon Derek Cobb, all of Shelby; two daughters-in- law, Katherine Cobb and Shelia Cobb, both of Shelby; three broth- ers, Roddy Lee Cobb Jr. of Shelby, jessie Belton Cobb of Chesnee, SC, and Z.0. "Toad" Cobb" of Mooresboro; three sisters; Corine White:of Crouse, Tessie Eunice McHaffey of Chesnee, SC, and Belvie McCraw of Shelby; and five grandchildren, Austin Cobb, Erika Cobb, Holly Cobb, Lindsey Hamrick and Robbie Hamrick. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late John Jackson and Susie Sellers Logan. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Elmer Hardin of Kings Mountain; three sons, David Hardin and John Hardin of Kings Mountain and Robert Hardin of Grover; a daugh- ter, Mrs. Lynda Hardin Stewart of Kings Mountain; a brother, Albert Logan of Blacksburg, SC; seven grandchildren and one great-grand- child. Carroll of Cherryville and her daughter, Brenda C. Marcos of California.. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Page and Mrs. Glena Beal, both of Shelby; seven grand- children; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Ocean View, Norfolk, Va., died March 17, 1995. He was a native of Kings Mountain, son of Robert "Pete" Bolton of Kings Mountain and Clara Shirley Bolton of Virginia Beach, Va. He was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Buren Bolton of Kings Mountain and Mrs. Farah Yeargin of Anderson, SC. An employee of Norfolk Motors in Norfolk, Va., he was a member of Taylor Baptist Church in Gastonia. He served in the United States Army. Surviving, in addition to his par- ents and grandparents, are one daughter, Keshi - Bolton of Lincolnton; and one sister, Linda Carpenter of Virginia Beach. COSTNER Joe Tillman Costner, 63, of 5501 Peeler St., Shelby, died March 21, 1995 at home. A native of Kings Mountain, he was the husband of Donna Nixon Costner and the son of the late Paul W. and Daisy Weaver Costner. He was employed by Cleveland Memorial Hospital in Shelby. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars with 24 years ser- vice in the United States Air Force. Surviving, in addition to his wife, ate two sons, Patrick Brian Costner of Pueblo, CO and Christopher Matthew Costner of Shelby; and one brother, Paul Costner of Florida. The graveside service will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. in Veterans Gardens of Mountain Rest Cemetery. Rev. Glenn Ward will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7-8:30 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home.
