The Mountaineers shot a 171 to R-S=Central's: 4.79: and lsast Rutherford's 184 at Cleghorn. Brad leonard led the Mountaineers and was co-medalist for the match with a three-over-par 39. Greg George shot 41. Chad Huffman 42 an Brian Maxey 49. At Pine Grove. the Mountaineers shot 150 to South Point's 156, East Ruthertord's 164 and Burns' 165. Leonard and Williams led the Mountaineers with 36s. Huffman shot 37 and George 41. Robbie Petty of East Rutherford was medalist with an even par 34. Boys track third at Shelby Kings Mountain High's boys track team finished third in a four- team Southwestern 3-A Conference meet Thursday at East Rutherford. Coach John Bumgardner's charges return home this afternoon to host R-S Central and East Rutherford in a 3:30 meet. The Mountaineers travel to Crest next Tuesday for the annual Cleveland County meet. R.J. Barnes paced the Mountaineers with two first place finishes. He won the long jump with a leap of 20'10 3/4" and the “triple jump with a jump of 40'6 1/4". Rodney Brown was second in the long jump at 20'1 3/4" and fourth in the triple jump at 37'9". Shane Logan posted another first place finish in the 110 high hurdles (16.18) and was second in the 300 intermediate hurdles in 44.73 sec- onds. Corey Jones was second in the 100 meter dash in 11.49 seconds, and Cedric Smith was fourth in 12.23. Kings Mountain ran second in the 800, 400 and 1600 meter re- lays, and Jonathan Lovelace was second in the 400 meter run in 56.23 seconds. Hart Wells was third in the 800 meter run in 2:17.26, and the 3200 meter relay team was fourth. James Green was fifth in the dis- cus with a throw of 108'1 1/2", and Daniel Gardner was fifth in the 110 high hurdles in 17.,01. Boys Club Anderson champions Kings Mountain's 13-under AAU basketball team won the Anderson College Invitational last week. Kings Mountain won six straight games and took Sunday's champi- onship game over Lexington, SC 91-56. Josh Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson and Kelee Thompson were named to the All-Tournament team. Other KM players were Shawn Adams, Nick Deaton, Josh Floyd, Qwenshon Goode, C.J. Hayes, Ryan Lowery, Jonathan Safrit, Tyrell White, Reggie Williams and Vince Young. Kings Mountain opened tourna- ment action Friday with a 73-37 win over Shilo, SC. Thompson and ¥en '. Cleveland Wheelchair Awareness will donate proceeds from the annual exhibition basket- ball game with the Charlotte Wheelchair Hornets to help build the Hemlock Trail at South Mountain State Park. The game, at 3 p.m. May 6 at Shelby City Park, will feature the veteran Charlotte club coming off a regular season schedule of over 50 games against a group of local players including some able-bodied members such as Sheriff's Department deputies and others. There may even be a "sur- prise” player or two. The South Mountain State Park "Hemlock Trail" now being built will loop over one mile from the Hayes scored 15 points each and Josh Johnson added 10. Saturday, KM rolled over Rock Hill 102-19 as five players scored in double figures. Josh Johnson led the way with 18, followed by White 15, Adams 11, and Jeremiah Johnson and Floyd 10 each. Later Saturday, KM outscored Greenville 89-40 as Lowery scored 17 White 15 and Goode 10. In another game Saturday, KM defeated Georgia 60-21 as Josh Johnson scored 20, Hayes 12 and Adams 10. In Sunday's championship game over Lexington, Josh Johnson scored 22, Jeremiah Johnson and Thompson 12 each, and Young and Williams 10 each. Benefit bhaskethall game planned main parking lot up along the Henry Fork River and back. It is designed to be wheelchair accessi- ble including at least one spot for fishing or viewing the water. The Wheelchair Awareness members will donate funds from the basket- ball game for the project. The game will help celebrate Architectural Barrier Awareness Day, calling attention to physical limitations encountered by the dis- abled such as steps, narrow doors and aisles, and other things which may be improved by reasonable modifications. Other sponsors include Shelby Parks Department and Cleveland County Physical Therapy. Midgette leads in duckpin bowling Mark Midgette took over sole possession of first place in Mixed Duckpin Bowling League action Tuesday night, but second place . R.W. Hullender also caused some serious pin-falling at Dilling Heating's Lanes. Hullender's team rolled a sea- son-high 1,118 series in a 6-2 vic- tory over Jack Barrett. Six weeks into the second half, Midgette now leads with a 26-22 record, followed by Hullender and Barrett at 24-24, and Dilling at 22- 26. UUNALU runy Midgette rolled a 130 line and 378 set to lead his team to a sweep of John Dilling. Dilling led his troops with a 135 line and 364 set. Hullender won 6-2 over Barrett as all three team members topped the 300-set mark. Chuck Ruley led the way with a 128 line and 381" set, R.W. Hullender added a 136 line and 378 set, and Chris Hullender bowled a 124 line and 359 set. Jack Barrett had a 143 line and 362 set and Irene Ruley a 124 line and 342 set for Barrett. Brian LeFevers led off with a double and moved to third on a throwing error by Hutchins. After Sidney Bridges reached on a fielder's choice, Kevin Melton sin- gled home LeFevers and Bridges scored when the hit got past the centerfielder. Robert Wingo walked and moved to second on a passed ball, and big Mike Cobb laced a two-run single to left. The Mountaineers moved ahead 6-0 with a run in the sixth on a walk to Ricky Stimson, another R- S error and a pair of wild pitches by Hutchins. Cobb led the Mountaineers with a double and single in three official trips. LeFevers and Kenny Bridges each had a double and Melton had a single. "Big Mike Cobb had his most productive offensive game as a varsity player,” Connor noted. "He also played well defensively.
