A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Ella Mae Hamrick Peterson of Blacksburg and the late James Emmett Dover. He was employed as sales manager tor Peeler Jersey Farm in Gaffney and was a member of Faith Baptist Church. In addition to his mother. he is survived by his wife. Patricia Curtis Dover of the home; a son, David Scott Dover of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Cherie D. Sperling of Shelby; two brothers, Eddie Dover of Blacksburg and Gary Dover of Clover, SC: a sister, Ann Spake of Blacksburg; a step- brother, Walter Peterson of Gaftney; and three grandchildren, Nicole Bayne of Blacksburg, Erika Dover of Kings Mountain and Lucas Sperling of Shelby. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. Barry Goodman and Billy Boone Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. URIAS BIXBY PIERCE BREVARD - Urias Bixby Pierce, 87, died April 23, 1995. A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Childs E. and Christine T. Pierce. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Brevard. ‘{e was educated at N.C. State University in Raleigh in Chemical Engineering. He was superinten- dent of the Water Department in Weldon for 40 years before his re- tirement. He was a Scoutmaster for 25 years and a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge (Roanoke #203 AF& AM, Weldon), and was a Shriner. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie D. Pierce of Brevard; a son, John W. Pierce of Brevard; a brother. C. Edward Pierce of San Antonio, Texas; and two grandchil- dren, Johnathan W. Pierce and Patricia G. Wilson of Brevard. He was the brother-in-law of Pearl Hammett and Fred A. Dixon of Kings Mountain. The funeral was conducted by Dr. Joe Leonard WEdnesday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Brevard: A Masonic graveside ser- vice was held at Pisgah Memorial Gardens. BERTHA PATTERSON ROCK HILL, SC - Mrs. Bertha Dover Ashe Patterson, 83, 1250 Honeywood Lane, died Monday, April 24, 1995 at her home. A native of Cherokee County, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Emmett and Jessie Horne Dover. She was the widow of Paul Patterson. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse and was formerly employed at N.C. Orthopedic Hospital. She was a member of Patterson Grove Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Betty A. Johnson of Rock Hill; a brother, James Dover of Gastonia; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Rev.! Kenneth. Spain Wednesday at 11 a.m. at York Funeral Home. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain. DORIS C. GAMBLE Doris Culley Gamble, 89, died April 18, 1995 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The funeral was conducted April 20 at 7 p.m. at Fred Hunter's Hollywood Memorial Gardens Home. Rev. George Lease, pastor of Hollywood Hills Untied Methodist Church, officiated. A native of Miami, she was the widow of John Herbert Gamble, a Cleveland County native. She was also preceded in death by her son, John Herbert Gamble Jr., former Kings Mountain High School foot- ball coach. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Howard C. and Beatrice V. Gamble of Fort Lauderdale; her grandchildren, Kevin and Mindy Gamble of Ft. l.auderdale, Laura and Glenn Rousseau, of Rockledge, Fla. Terry and Tommy Thornton, Tracy and Mark Gibbons, all of Ft. lauderdale and John and Annc Gamble of Kings Mountain; her daughter-in-law, Betty Roberts Gamble of Kings Mountain; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. ROSA ANDERSON Rosa Short Anderson, 77, 1007 Sccond Street, Kings Mountain, died April 22. 19935 at. Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Joe Baxter and Mary Hulda Morrison Short and was the wife of the late John Ervin Anderson. She was a retired textile worker. She is survived by four sons, Albert Anderson and Claude Anderson of Grover, and Ronnie Anderson and Kenneth Anderson of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Judy Morrison of Kings Mountain; two brothers, J.B. Short of Kings Creek, SC and Paul Short of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Novella Foster and Vertie Bridges of Kings Mountain; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
