Kings Mountain, died April 26. 1995 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. vt A native Lingerfelt. She was retired as a winder trainer with Burlington Industries. She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Gastonia. She is survived by four sons, Doug Haas of Dallas, Maxie Lingerfelt of Williamsburg, Va., and Tyree Lingerfelt and Billy Lingerfelt of Gastonia; four daugh- ters, Peggy Sanders of Kings Mountain, Faye Sanders of Florence, Ala., Hazel Cribb of Conway, SC, and Linda Doss of Gastonia; 26 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. W.H. Calvert and Billy Allen Saturday at 11 a.m. at Harris Chapel. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. MATTIE T. HAMBRIGHT GROVER - Mattie Turner Hambright, 98, died April 26, 1995 at Grayland Croft Home in Gastonia. A native of Cherokee County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Houston and Edna Jane Ross Turner, and wife of the late Ernest Allen Hambright. She was a home- maker and a member of First Baptist Church of Grover. She is survived by her brother, Clayburn Turner of Earl; and two sisters, Adelia Hambright of Grover and Grace Stover of Stone Mountain, Ga. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. John Bridges Friday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Burial was in Grover Cemetery. WHITEY WHITESIDE Robert "Whitey" Whiteside, 70, of 906 Boyce St., died May 2, 1995 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A mative of Lincoln County, he was. the son of Alma Haynes Whiteside of Gastonia and the late William Dorse Whiteside. He was widower of ‘Ann Ruth Hawkins Whiteside and a disabled veteran. A former Prisoner of War, he was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are one son, Alan Whiteside of Kings Mountain; and two grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church by his pastor, Rev. Patricia Stone. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Nicole Setzer, daughter of Margaret Setzer, will attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is active in the KMHS National Honor Society. Ware, daughter of Kumi Ware of Kings Mountain and Keith Ware of Hickory, will attend Lenoir-Rhyne College at HIckory. She is vice- president of the French Club, ac- tive in the National Honor Society and Beta Club and was Shelby Exchange Club Student of the Month. : Ware also won a $800 scholar- ship to North Carolina State University from the Elks Club @ Come Meet The ReighinG CYNTHIA WARE plus a $5,000 academic scholarship from Lenoir- Rhyne College. Both Setzer and Ware agreed, under provision of the four year nursing grant, to work in North Carolina for at least a short period of time after graduation. lothing Boutique P= Lowe on state reading scores Kings Mountain fourth graders are consistently showing improve- ment on reading scores, according to Dr. Jane King, Kings Mountain school's assistant superintendent for instruction. One of the reasons for improve- ment, according to King, is that end-of-grade testing in May makes teachers accountable for teaching the new curriculum. "The teaching and learning pro- cess has been strengthened,” she said.
