Bob Hope, pastor of Midview Baptist Church, recent challenged his congregation to have 100 in Sunday School for Mother's Day by promising to preach from the roof of the church. When 108 people showed up, he made good on his promise. March for Jesus Saturday in Shelby Marchers of all ages will gather at Shelby Middle School on Sumter Street in Shelby Saturday at 9:30 a.m. to "March for Jesus" to Shelby High School Stadium where a praise service will be held at 11 am. The public is invited. A big prayer rally will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Shelby's Bethel Baptist Church. Final plans for the event are un- derway by teams of volunteers from churches all over the county. The March for Jesus Team includes Jim Brackett, Bobby Quinn, Joe Cabaniss, Phyllis Campbell, Marilyn Ferree, Norma Poston, Linda Hamrick and Leslie Pitt, all of Shelby, and Betty Mitchell of Kings Mountain. Each church in the county has a coordinator, according to Mitchell, who is helping place volunteers in different task groups, working with music teams to, help the fhatchers learn’ the songs. Some churches are planning to wear col- orful, matching t-shirts and carry banners. Monday night a group of marchers from local churches walked a practice march around the Shelby Courtsquare. March for Jesus is a national and international event that unifies the entire body of Christ in cities across the United States for one purpose: to exalt Jesus Christ. The march is a procession through city streets with praise, prayer and proclamation. "History is on the move toward the year 2000 but even more excit- ing is the fact that God's church is on the move," said Mitchell. Those participating in the march may park their vehicles at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Shelby High School. There will be a run through of the march music at 9 a.m. Marchers may purchase the music for the march for a $1 donation. "It is our prayers that the March for Jesus in Cleveland County will bring together the entire body of Jesus Christ in a colorful, joyful celebration of the Lord Jesus," said Mitchell. Joshua concert at Faith Baptist Joshua of Chester, SC, will be in concert Sunday, May 28 at 7 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, 1009 Linwood Road, Kings Mountain. The public is invited.
