Coach Tony Leigh's nine will host Belmont Thursday. Bessemer City comes to town Friday for a twinbill beginning at 6 p.m. KM hosts Gastonia Saturday and Monday, plays at Shelby Tuesday and at Belmont Wednesday. Post 155 is among the league- leaders and share first place in the loss column. However, KM hasn't played as many games as the other teams and is 1 1/2 games out of first. The Juniors gave some good . performances last week despite a humiliating 23-2 loss to Shelby in a seven-inning game on Thursday. Kings Mountain bounced back from that loss to defeat Shelby 10- 6 Saturday night in Shelby. Post 155 opened its season Wednesday night with a 4-0 win over Forest City. Sharee Hopper went the distance, scattering four hits. Robert Wingo and Bryan Leftwich led the hitting with three hits each and Brian LeFevers added two. Shelby sent 17 men to the plate ‘in the first inning, scoring 12 runs Thursday en route to one of the “most lop-sided losses KM has suf- ‘fered in years. Shelby finished with 16 hits and five home runs. © Brad Piercy's three-run shot over ‘the left-centerfield fence got Post 82 going. Jim Curtis followed with ‘a grand-slam to chase KM starter Duane Patterson. Shelby used four pitchers and Cameron Falls and LeFevers also saw action for KM. Robert Wingo went 8 2/3 innings to get the win and Leftwich came on in the ninth to get his sec- ond straight save. Ray Martin led the KM plate at- tack with 3-for-4 and three runs batted in. Wingo was 2-for-4 and Tony Stokes had a two-run double to give KM its lead in the bottom of the eighth. Kings Mountain collected 10 hits but left too many base runners stranded in Monday's 4-0 loss at Stanley. Hopper worked the first three innings and took the loss. Patterson pitched four innings and Falls one. Martin and Wingo led the KM plate attack with 3-for-5 each and Melton was 2-for-3. Kings Mountain bounced back Tuesday night to defeat Forest City 7-2. Leftwich worked the first five innings and got the win, and LeFevers pitched the last four. Melton led the hitting with 2- for-4 and a three-run home run.
