Woman finds
her mansion
in K. Mtn.
Barbara Dubeau found her "lit-
tle mansion on a hill" in Kings
Mountain recently because of
Good Samaritans and she wants to
sing their praises.
"I guess you'd call me a dis-
placed homemaker because I had
lived in a lot of places after the
death of my husband three years
ago but now I'm here to stay," she
said as she talked about how life
changed for her when she moved
to a public housing apartment at
213 W. Ridge Street.
Dubeau had lived in Shelby with
relatives but wanted to be out on
her own but with limited funds to
move out since the heart patient
spreads her disability check thin
paying medicine bills.
"The folks at Social Services put
me in touch with the Kings
Mountain Crisis Ministry and the
Senior Center in Kings Mountain
and Monty Thornburg and the
folks there just took me under their
wing, found me this pretty apart-
ment and they and my neighbors
and grandchildren helped furnish
it," she said.
Dubeau calls her neighbors
Lexie Horton and Margaret
Dillinger her "guardian angels."
" These dear friends and my grand-
daughter and grandson, Lori and
Roy Murray and friends like Willie
and Tommy Hudson and Nancy
Dennis have helped me get a new
lease on life," said the 63- year-old
retired waitress.

friends, Dubeau said she consid-
ered herself lucky.
“I'm just thankful everyday for
new friends I've found in Kings
Mountain," she said.

REPAVING PROJECT - Paving work on a 2.11 mile stretch of Business 74 in Kings Mountain began
Tuesday and should be completed in a week. Employees of Asphalt Paving of Shelby are shown working
near East King and Dilling. The projected cost of the project is $155,000, according to Gene Wray of the
District Highway Office.
