JAYVEES From Page 6-A from behind with one second re- maining. On the final play of the half, Blanton passed to Allison for the touchdown and Jones added the PAT to make it 20-0. Michael Surratt intercepted a Kings Mountain pass at the Crest 17 yard line in the third quarter and the Chargers drove to the KM 17 before a 28-yard field goal missed on the first play of the fourth quar- ter. The Chargers’ final touchdown came with 6:13 remaining when Allison intercepted a KM pass and returned it 50 yards for a touch- down. BESSEMER From Page 5-A back last year, has moved to tail- back and has been very impressive. Brick Hill has taken over the quar- terback duties and is making good progress. "Their running game has the possibility of making some very big plays offensively," said Massey. Massey said the key to Kings Mountain's success will be holding onto ‘the football. | The Mountaineers have committed nine turnovers in their first two games, and they've fumbled on many other occasions but recovered the ball themselves. "We can't turn the ball over and be a good football team," says Massey. "We talk about it all the time in practice and we're trying to emphasize it. We're also going to have to do a better job with our special teams this week. If we con- tinue to play as hard as we're play- ing defensively, I feel like we'll be in good shape. "But the burden is going to lie with the offense," he added. "We've got to hold onto the football and put it in the endzone." Massey said the Mountaineers need a big win going into their open date next week, and he urges the KM fans to come out in huge numbers to support the team. "We had a good turnout last week at Crest," he said. "We appre- ciate the support of the fans and hope they'll continue to hang with us." CREST From Page 5-A Massey said. "We just made too many mistakes. Our special teams play hurt us. Not putting points on the board in the first quarter and the first of the second quarter when we had those two drives down to the 35 and 30 yard line, and then two turnovers, hurt us. You can't do things like that against an outstand- ing football team. "But I think Crest is a very good football team and deserves all the recognition they've gotten. Hopefully, we'll take this game and use it as a stepping stone and learn- ing process. "We played hard," he went on. "I don't want to take anything away from our kids. Even in the fourth quarter we were flying around de- fensively. I was a little disappoint- ed in our execution in the second half, but when you get down like that sometimes you don't execute as well as you should." Senior fullback Shane Logan led the Mountaineers in rushing with 75 yards in 13 carries, giving him 197 yards rushing in the first two games. Marcus Smith added-44 yards in seven carries and also caught two passes for 28 yards. GMC SONOMA | PICKUP 5-speed, air conditioning, AM/FM stereo cassette, power steering, bedliner, much, much more.
