Presbyterians plan joint services
Nine area Presbyterian churches
will launch the annual October se-
ries of Sunday night services
Sunday with an old-fashioned
hymn sing at First Presbyterian
Church in Bessemer City with Rev.
Steve Hannah leading the service.
On October 15 Shiloh
Presbyterian Church will be host
with Rev. Bill Lowe of Long Creek
Church in Bessemer City leading
the serving.
First Presbyterian Church in
Kings Mountain will host the com-
munion service on October 22 at
which Rev. State Alexander, pastor
of New Hope Church, Rev.
Richard Newsome, pastor of First
Presbyterian Church and Erica
Durham, student assistant, will
lead the service.
Other participating churches are
Dixon Presbyterian in Kings
Mountain, Hephzibah Church in
Gastonia, and Cherryville First
Presbyterian Church.
All services are at 7 p.m. and the
public is invited. Light refresh-
ments will be served after each ser-
vice. A special offering will be tak-
en for Cherryville Area Ministries
and Guatemala Partnership.

There will be a gospel singing
Saturday, october 7 at 7 p.m. at
Holiness Church of God, Rhyne
Street, Gastonia.
Featured group will be the
Mallcy Brothers.

ly October 11-13 at 7 p.m. and 8:30
p.m. each evening.

Washam to preach
at Freewill Church
Rev. James Washam will fill the
pulpit Thursday night at 7 p.m. at
Freewill Church of God, 1510 S.
Marietta St., Gastonia.
Homecoming set
at David Baptist
Homecoming will be October 8
at David Baptist Church, Kings
Mountain.
Rev. Brian Taule, former pastor,
will be the speaker at the 11 a.m.
worship service. Sunday School
begins at 9:45 a.m.
A fellowship and meal will fol-
low the service. The public is invit-
ed.
Brackett to preach
at Oak View revival
Rev. Jim Brackett, pastor of
West View Baptist Church in
Shelby, will fill the pulpit at revival
services which begin Sunday at
Oak View Baptist Church on York
Road.
Services are at 7 p.m. nightly
through October 11.
A nursery will be provided for
pre-school children.
The public is invited.
Lutherans plan
October events
Resurrection Lutheran Church is
sponsoring special events in
October.
Women of the Church will hold
the quarterly meeting Monday at 7
p.m. and the program will feature
Lutheran Services for the Aging.
Gifts will be donated by members
to residents of the various nursing
homes.
Lutheran Men will hold a break-
fast meeting at the church October
15 at 8:30 a.m.
Lutheran Young People are
planning a weekend camping trip
to Briar Bottom near Mount
Mitchell. Chaperones are Mike
Blalock, Mark and Beth Smith and
Reggie and Dena Blalock.
Circle 3 and Lutheran Youth will
host the annual Halloween carnival
October 28. A hot dog supper will
be served at 5 p.m. followed by fun
and games until 7 p.m. Children
and adults are asked to wear their
costumes for the annual parade
around the fellowship hall.
Members of the Luther League
will head for the woods this month
with blankets and flashlights for an
evening of spooky tales by the fire.
The Kings Mountain State Park
will host the group, and the general
public, on October 30 at 7:30 p.m.
at the Living History Farm for an
hour of scary stories and fun.
Barbara and Clenon Tackett and
Ben and Sonja Welsh will chaper-
one the local group.
Special events

First Presbyterian Church is
planning a number of October
events.
Senior adults will take a fall fo-
liage trip October 14, departing for
the mountains about 10 a.m.
A barbecue and square dance
will be held October 21 at 6:30
p.m. in the church recreation build-
ing.
A fall festival "for kids of all
ages" will be held October 31 with
hot dogs, games, prizes and
Halloween costumes.

A youth lock-in will be held at

Senior Center sets poor man's supper
Kings Mountain Senior Center
will sponsor a poor man's supper
Friday from 4:30-7:30 p.m. with
proceeds earmarked for a lighted
sign for the front of the Center.
The menu will include potato
salad, pinto beans, slaw, cornbread,
onion and tea. The plates are $3.50
and $2.00.
Diners may eat inside the facility
or take-out.
