JOHN A. McCOIG SR. John A. McCoig Sr., 70, 710 Hillside Drive, Kings Mountain, died October 22, 1995 at his home. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Talmadge and Ruby Paysour McCoig. He was President and CEO of JAM- CO, Company of Kings Mountain. He was a member of Resurrection ~ Lutheran Church, and was a World War II veteran: of the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Dolphin. He is survived by his wife, Athlene Grayson McCoig of Kings Mountain; a son, John A. McCoig Jr. of Gastonia; a step-son, D. Roger Smith of Monroe; a step- daughter, Dana Rogers of Salisbury; a brother, Barry McCoig of Gastonia; two sisters, Gail Blanton of Mauldin, SC and Marjorie Whiteside of Caswell Beach; and seven grandchildren, Anna Tina McCoig, Lea Virginia McCoig, Sonja Justice, Bryan Justice, Chelsie T. Smith, Steven G. Rogers and James L. Rogers. The funeral was conducted by Dr. John Mauney Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Resurrection: Lutheran Church. Burial was in Bethany A.R.P. Church Cemetery, Clover, SC. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 201 W. CATHERINE SPEARMAN Mrs. Catherine Ware Spearman, 68, 913 Battleground Avenue, Kings Mountain, died October 18, 1995 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A native of Florida, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ava Barber Ware. She was a nursing aid at White Oak Manor Nursing Center in Shelby and a member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Ava S. Mauney of Gastonia; a brother, Leonard Ware of Kings Mountain; and three grandchildren. A graveside service was con- ducted by Dr. John Sloan and Rev. Barry Sanderson Friday at 4 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. ountain, NC RUBY CORRY Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Jo Camp Corry will be held Thursday, October 26 at 3 p.m. at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Gastonia. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Mrs. Corry was born April 27, 1941 i Blacksburg, SC to the late Garrison and Oveda Young Camp. She joined Young's Grove Baptist Church in Blacksburg, and she lat- er became a member of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Gastonia. She is survived by three daugh- ters, Nikita Camp of Gastonia, Erica Strong of Kings Mountain and Davina Corry of Kings Mountain; one sister, Annie Burris of Kings Mountain; and one broth- er, Horace Camp of Clover, SC; and 11 grandchildren, four of the home. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Pumpkin Patch open in Cherryville The Great Pumpkin Patch is open for pumpkin purchases or for school group visits at Cherryville Church of God, 810 E. Main Street, Cherryville, through October 31. Prices range from 50 cents to $10 for pumpkins from the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico. The Patch is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Robbins to sing at Church of God Christy Robbins of Gastonia will be featured in a program of gospel singing Sunday at 6 p.m. at Cherryville Church of God, 810 E. Main Street. Other local singers will be in the group and the public is invited. She said it is possible it's the Possum Trot School. Her father, George Herndon Logan, who taught in this area at the turn of the century, is pictured on the back row. Mr. Logan attended Dixon School, Shelby Graded School and Kings Mountain High School and began his teaching career in1894 in one-room schools in Cleveland and Cherokee Counties. He was one of the first trustees of Boiling Springs High School, now Gardner-Webb University.
