KM man wins two vehicles Clevemont Mills employee Larry Rountree consid- ers himself fortunate inspite of the fact that he's among 400 employees faced with layoffs. Rountree won't have a transportation problem when he starts job hunting. He has a 1995 Ford Ranger and a 1996 Chrysler he won in prize drawings during the past six months. "I don't have any car payments to make and I'm just going to take my time and look for a job," said the third shift dyehouse worker. Rountree picked up his new car this week. The fern Grover delays hiring new police officer GROVER - It was standing- room-only at the Town board meet- ing Monday night for one of the shortest meetings on record, 20 minutes. Councilman Robbie Sides sug- gested the board postpone the hir- ing of a new full-time policeman until after the municipal election Tuesday in which three seats were to be decided and the tabling of awarding bids for the weapons. Grover recently received a grant to hire a full-time police officer. Councilman Noel Spivey said that officials of Norfolk-Southern Railway have been contacted about the paving of the railroad side of Main Street and he hopes to get their official okay in the next day or two. Spivey said the improve- ments should stop some of the street flooding problems. In a related action, the board ap- proved the spending of $4,000 for galvanized pipe to replace a water line at Brookwood and Timberline Streets. Sides, who is heading up the committee to buy new equip- ment for Grover Park, said that he is getting prices on kiddie slide boards and a two-seat swing set. Councilman Jack Herndon, who heads the cemetery committee, said he will get prices for a clean-up project. Veteran's Day ceremony set Saturday in Shelby Jerry Trammell, Shelby attorney and past assistant district attorney in Cleveland County, will be the keynote speaker at the annual Veterans Day ceremony Saturday at 11 a.m. on the north side of the old courthouse in Shelby. In event of rain, the service will be held inside the Cleveland County Historical Museum. Richard McSwain, chairman of the Veterans Day Committee, will serve as master of ceremonies. A color guard of AF Junior ROTC students from Crest High School will advance the colors and Martha Fortenberry will sing The National Anthem. The invocation will be given by Jim Cox. Mayor George Clay will give the welcome.
