Just over a year ago the Gaston County Police K-9 Unit completed ‘a drug interdiction project in the “York Road area community which ‘resulted in numerous drug arrests ‘and eviction of suspects from sev- eral places identified as drug hous- es. Jay Human, of the Gaston County Police K-9 Unit, said that residents and property owners worked with police to correct long- time problems and with the aid of other agencies such as the Gaston County's Code Enforcement and Solid Waste units, inadequate housing and property violations were identified. A Community Watch was organized and property owners began extensive repairs. Human said Community has an impressive face lift. The houses have new roofs and vinyl siding , flowers have been planted and most impor- tantly children are not afraid to play in the yards. "This neighborhood is an out- standing example of how commu- nity policing can work and succeed at improving peoples’ lives," said Human.
