sents.
The first annual Toy Run by

a big collection of toys which
were presented to White Plains
Shrine Club of Kings Mountain for
distribution at Shriners Hospital.

Incoming White Plains President

the hospital prior to Christmas Eve.
John and Buffy Murphy ar-
ranged the event, assisted by Kevin
Champion and Buffy's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Johnny Hutchins, and
parents and employees from Dot's
Day Care pitched in by helping
with the collection.
More than 10 cyclists took part
in the 10-mile Toy Run which was
led by firemen in a Bethlehem Fire
Toy Run benefits children
Department fire truck which led
the caravan through the city, assist-
ed by the Kings Mountain Police
Department.
"It was just something my wife
and I wanted to do for Christmas
and we were delighted to have the
help from many people and appre-
ciate the collection from the com-
munity," said John Murphy.
After the Toy Run, the Murphys
served homemade chili to the par-
ticipants at their home on Camelot
Court.

"Learn to Ski'
The Continuing Education
Department at Cleveland
Community College in cooperation
with Sugar Mountain REsort, Inc.,
in Banner Elk has scheduled a
"Learn to Ski" program to begin in
January.
There will be an organizational
meeting and’ registration on
Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. in room
1134 at CCC. The class will begin
January 16 at Sugar Mountain and
will meet each Tuesday at 7 p.m.
through February 13.
The cost is $135 per person and
includes registration, lift/slope
tickets, rental equipment and
lessons. Fees will be collected at
the organizational meeting.

GRADUATION TIME - Seventy fifth graders at Grover School
graduated from the D. A. R. E. (Drug abuse resistance education) pro-
gram led by Kings Mountain Police Officer Lisa Capps Tuesday. The
program has been underway since the beginning of the fall term. KM-
PD Captain Richard Reynolds, guest speaker, congratulated the stu-
dents for saying ''no to drugs.' Capps is pictured with Charles Boone,
