Pencil portraits Albea's specialty He's not Da Vinci or Van Gogh, but he is proud, nevertheless, of his ability to draw and create his own kind or art. He's Greg Albea, and for most of his life, which is not a very long time to some of us (he's 27 years old), he has used his eyes and hands to create beautiful things on paper. For right now, he calls his gift a hobby, doing portfolios here and there, a sketch or two of a loved one or a favorite pet for a little money on the side. He says, "I enjoy portraits. Its what comes easiest to me." Albea estimates that he first put his talent to work at the age of sev- en. "The first picture I ever recall doing is Goofy, and my mom (Louise Moore of Boiling Springs) still has the picture," he says. He said since feeling the proudness and all the good stuff that comes with an appreciation from such a gift, he decided he would keep do- ing what made him happy - making others happy with his art. He getgimany requests for pen- cil portraits. Just this past Christmas, he completed around 84 of these pictures. However, his side job has proved to be one that is somewhat seasonal. The portraits take anywhere from two to size hours to complete - a project that keeps him pretty busy for most of the day. Amazingly, with no formal training, Albea has been assigned to numerous types of odds and ends art jobs. He has designed over 20 tattoos and is working on Call 24 HRS/DAY, one now. Also, he has painted mu- S/WE rals and business signs. But his fa- . That's known by word of mouth. He says that he is going to take his art one day at a time, and maybe one day he will have the re- sources to have his own shop. When he is not drawing, he is at work at Eaton in Kings Mountain. Albea is a forklift operator. In his spare time, he enjoys playing with four-year-old son Elijah, fishing and playing golf.
