Page 2A - THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD - Thursday, February 8. 1996 Birthdays KYLEE RENEE RAMSEY Kylee Renee Ramsey celebrates birthday Kylee Renee Ramsey, daughter of Doug and Leslie Ramsey of Grover, was four years old November 12. She celebrated with family and friends at a Barbie par- ty. She is the granddaughter of Don and Fritzy Sellers, Shell and Renee Byars, and Jerry Ramsey. Great- grandparents are Alma Sellers, Belve and Rosa Ledford, and Freelon and Belle Ramsey. Kylee has a two-yedr-old sister, Tori. TORI RAMSEY Victoria Ramsey is two years old Victoria Michelle "Tori" Ramsey, daughter of Doug and Leslie Ramsey of Grover, was two .years old December 28. She cele- brated with family and friends at a Winnie the Pooh party. Tori is the granddaughter of Don and Fritzy Sellers, Jerry Ramsey, * . and Shell and. Renee: Byars. Great grandparents are Alma Sellers, Freelon and: le Ramsey, and Pe and Ros4 Ledford. Tori has a four-year-old sister, Kylee. 71st birthday for Hope Howell Hope Howell's homebaked but- termilk pies and pineapple upside down cakes bring raves from fami- ly and friends. The Kings Mountain resident was surprised on her 71st birthday February 3 with a "You're Still 17" birthday cake decorated in laven- der and white at the home of Brenda and Dennis Marshburn in Shelby. Family and friends showered her with gifts. A resident of Kings Mountain since 1987, Mrs. Howell moved from Princeton, West Virginia where she wrote a column for the Princeton Times. She attended Spanishburg Schools where she wasidouble promoted twice and ex- celled in all subjects. She worked in the family owned grocery store and the Kegley, West Virginia Post Office until her marriage -to Wallace Tracy in 1945. She is the mother or four chil- dren who reside in North Carolina and there are 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She does her own housework and takes care of her personal busi- ness: despite a heart condition she developed in March 1994. Fund drive opens for Martin family When a twister destroyed their mobile home January 24 in the Oak Grove Community William and Janice Martin and their daugh- ter, April, moved in with Mrs. Martin's parents on Bridges Drive in Kings Mountain. Friends of the family have opened a special account for the family at Carolina State Bank to help them furnish another home. Donations may be forwarded to Carolina State Bank, The Martin Fund, PO Box 340, Kings Mountain, 28086. Gospel Sing Sunday at Westover Church Westover Baptist Church will sponsor a gospel singing February 11 at 6 p.m. featuring "Southland." Refreshments will be served af- ter the program to which the public is invited. ' Memorial Hospital. Obituaries MICKIE SPRINGS MOUNT HOLLY - Mrs. Margaret "Mickie" Springs, 50, of 400 W. Catawba Ave., died January 31, 1996. ‘at Gaston She was born in. Washington, DC and was a retired school teach- er with the Gaston County School System. A member of Mount Holly First Presbyterian Church and Circle 6, she was a member of Mount Holly Garden Club. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Worth Springs III; one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Houser Bell and Brent Bell of Kings Mountain; her mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Ben T. Goforth of Kings Mountain; her fa- ther, Robert Warren of Frosty Valley, Pa.; and one granddaughter, Emily Margaret Bell of Kings Mountain. The funeral was conducted February 2 at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Randall Boggs and Rev. Wilson Rhoton of- ficiated. Burial was in the Mount Holly Cemetery. HELEN SMITH FALLS Helen Smith Falls, 95, of Kings Mountain, died February 4, 1996 at Crawley Memorial Hospital in Boiling Springs. A native of Browwood, TX, she was the daughter of the late William Burnette and Mattie Griffin Smith, and wife of the late Andy Burgon Falls Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. She is survived by two daugh- ters, Billie Washburn of Boiling Springs and Betty Hardin of Shelby; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great- great-grandchild. The funeral was conducted by Dr. John Sloan Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. WILLIAM F. MARSH William Frank Marsh, 83, of 102 Wells St, died January 30, 1996 at home. A native of Moriboro Coltnie he was married goiHelen Maggie Sexton Marsh ‘and was the son of the late William Frank Marsh Sr. He was retired from Firestone Mills. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five daughters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Cochran, Mrs. Gloria Jean Alexander, Mrs. Cathy Denise McLean, all of Kings Mountain, and Mrs. Linda Sue Johns and Mrs. Mildred Ann Short, both of Gastonia; one son, Luther Thomas Estes; 28 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews . The graveside service was con- ducted February 2 at 4 p.m. at Gastonia's Hollywood Cemetery. Rev. Jesse Ballew officiated. ROBERTA LEE Roberta Dixon Lee, 86, 608 N. Vance Street, Gastonia, died Wednesday, January 31, 1996. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Lee and Doive Hamm Dixon. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Homer Lee; brother, James Dixon and her sis- ter, Delia Hinson. She was a homemamker. She is survived by three sons, David R. Lee, Sr. of Bessemer City, Larry Lee of Gastonia, and Kenneth Lee of Gastonia; one daughter, Jolene Pruitt of Bessemer City; fourteen grandchildren, nine- teen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. The funeral was conducted at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home Chapel Friday, February 2, 1996 at 2 p.m. Rev. James Collette and Rev. Joel Collette officiated the ceremony. Burial was in Hollywood Cemetery. HASKEL SCISM Haskel Scism, 52, 128 Cattle Drive, Kings Mountain, died February 4, 1996 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Evelyn Wright Scism of Kings Mountain and the late John Meral Scism. He was a graduate of UNC-Charlotte and was retired after 25 years as an ac- countant with Winn-Dixie. He was a member of Patterson Grove Baptist Church, where he was Sunday School Director and a member of the choir. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Ann Bridges Scism; a son, Marcus Scism and daughter-in-law Anne Hallman Scism of Cherryville; daughter, Monica Scism of Kings Mountain; and two brothers, Robert Scism of Kings Mountain and Don Scism of Bessemer City. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. Terry Byrd and Richard Plyler Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Patterson Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Francis Vane-and Mamie Compton Wells, —and husband of the-tate-Dorothy - Wright Wells. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by a son, Ricky Wells of Kings Mountain; a step- son, Michael Wells of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Dorothea Kiser of Bessemer City and Lolita Culberson of Siler City; three brothers, Ralph Wells and Pete Wells of Kings Mountain and John Wells of Rustburg, Va.; six sisters, Burdina Bumgardner, Minnie Morrow and Jennie Owens of Kings Mountain, Lillie Gladden of Charlotte, Ethel Bumgardner of Rocky Mount, Va., and Mary Deal of Gastonia; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late W.M. and Laura Sexton Jones, and wife of the late Charlie Oliver Grant. She was a member of Missionary Methodist Church, Kings Mountain. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. John Heath Monday at 2 p.m. at Harris Chapel. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. MITCHELL W. HUNT LEXINGTON - Mitchell Williams Hunt, 87, 807 Mitchell Avenue, died Monday, February 5 at 5:45 a.m. at Lexington Health Care after an illness of three weeks. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Wray Alexander Williams and Emma Ware Williams. She was a graduate of Kings Mountain High School and Mars Hill Junior College, and also a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was a school teacher for Kings Mountain Schools and Lexington City Schools. She was a member of the Lexington Woman's Club and a volunteer for Lexington Memorial Hospital.
