The vehicles were moved when officers arrived at the scene. Kahn says cop’ s life exciting Ptl. Michael Kahn's military training is a big asset in his new career choice. Kahn, a newcomer to the ranks of the Kings Mountain Police J Department, came to KMPD in August 1995. He finds law en- forcement exciting and never dull. "It's something different every day," said Kahn, 34, a native of Gastonia who graduated from Ashbrook High School in 1981. He traveled to the Western part of the country and was a ranch hand on several ranches before en- listing in Uncle Sam's Navy in sub- marine service. After four years in submarine service he joined the U. S. Marine Corps and served four years in special operations. "It was tough training but I loved the Marines," said Kahn. He said police work is similar to military work because both take men of integrity and men and offi- cers dedicated to the job. Kahn's wife, Christine, intro- duced him to Cleveland County and they now reside in Boiling Springs. Kahn took his rookie training at Cleveland Community PTL. MICHAEL KAHN College. Snow skiing and mountain climbing are hobbies Kahn and his wife enjoy together. Kahn likes all stream sports and scuba dives. Active in Putnam Memorial Baptist Church, Kahn said that Promise Keepers, a non-denomina- tion men's group, is an important part of his life. One of the biggest conferences of Promise Keepers was held in Atlanta with 75,000 men attending last year. Kahn hopes to be in the crowd for the June 21-22 Southeast Regional Conference in Charlotte where 150,000 men are expected. A family-centered men's min- istry, the members carry member- ship cards with pledges or promis- es outlined, including support of the mission of the church, reach far beyond racial or denominational barriers, influence others by being obedient to the Great Commandment and Great Commission and build strong mar- riages and families through love, protection and Biblical values. Kahn is a member of Sgt. James Camp's squad which includes Ptl. Larry Ware, Plt. Chris Owens and dispatcher Shawn Neighbors., Camp, who is an avid golfer, hopes to sign up Kahn soon on his team but Kahn's new custom-made clubs he brought with him to Cleveland County 2 1/2 years ago remain in storage.
