Jaime Sherrill, junior at Kings
Mountain School, is back from the
29th annual Presidential Classroom
in Washington, DC.
She was selected by the faculty
as a representative to the program
which attracted 246 high school ju-
niors and seniors from 34 states,
the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico
and Honduras.
Learning about the Democratic
process firsthand was an experi-
ence for Sherrill who was at the
White House for the welcoming
ceremony for French President
Jacques Chirac, attended seminars
at the Departments of Agriculture
and the floor of the House of
Representatives and visited foreign
embassies. She also met with
Republican Congresswoman Sue
Myrick on Capitol Hill and attend-
ed Congressional sessions and
committee hearings.
The 1996 Flagship Program ad-
dressed some of the most contro-
versial and current issues facing
American leadership, Sherrill said.
Students also attended Crossfire
discussions on each branch of the
government and current issues, and
visited the monuments, memorials
and treasures of the capital city.

There may be a tendency to confuse tranquility with the popular
tranquilizers. There is, of course, a great difference.
Tranquilizers are sometimes prescribed to soothe a troubled mind or
body; but tranquility of the mind comes
through the calm peace that is realized
when one’s life is so attuned to God's will
that there is neither time nor space to
allow frustration and confusion to invade the inner spirit of the soul.
A tranquil mind is not an inactive one, and it is never a closed door, but
rather an open door to more abundant blessings with an ever faithful
assurance that God has even more blessings in store for us.
When we are at peace with our maker, we are capable of inviting
tranquility to enter and live within us; we seek His will quietly with the
knowledge that He never fails us. ;
Your church or synagogue offers an opportunity for this serenity.
