ANNEXATION From Page 1-A South textile plans on Canterbury Road. ‘A total of 17 businesses, includ: /B ing nine on the Canterbury Road area and eight on Second Street and Kings Mountain Industrial Park, are included. The annexation would take in more than $29 million in property worth more than $100,000 per year in property taxes to the city. "We have always felt that these areas were a part of Kings Mountain," said Mayor Scott Neisler. The city is moving to overcome money shortfalls, the recent loss of revenue by the closing of Clevemont Mills and the forthcom- ing loss of revenue by new water recycling procedures underway at the Spectrum Industries, the city's largest user of water and natural gas. The city will probably vote to annex the two areas as soon as 10 days after the public hearing. The annexation study prepared by Benchmark Inc. had indicated earlier that the annexation would be a good move for the city. The Second Street area and KM Industrial Park, Area 97-A, has a real property value of $10 million and is comprised of 212 acres with 49 homes and eight businesses. The Canterbury Road and I-85 area 97-B has 11 homes and nine businesses with real property valu- ation of $19.3 million covering 546 acres. \ INGLE'S $240,000 cost of the extension but asked the city to file an Economic Development Grant application for a possible funding of part of the project. The agreement also stipu- lated that Ingles would pay for on- ly the cost to run the line to Ingles and not for additional lines the city might need for development. Walt. OHis, the city's Water/Wastewater superintendent, said the eight inch line would serve the area adequately. Councilman Rick Murphrey asked Ingles realtor Charles Murdock to research the need for a driveway directly in front of the Gold Run development since sev- eral other driveways and buffers are projected, pointing out traffic and safety concerns of residents who had petitioned the board not to permit the annexation. Planning Director Steve Killian estimated that revenues to the city from the new construction would approximate $25,000 a year initial- ly. DR.
