McGinnis Sansing, 81, 4856 Kings Mountain Highway, Bessemer City, died May 27, 1996 at Wilkinson Care Center in Gastonia. A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Robert S. McGinnis and Minnie Luzetta Helms, and wife of the late Ernest Thomas "Tom" Sansing Sr. She was a retired textile spinner and a former employee of Crowder's Mountain Mill and Craftspun of Kings Mountain. She was former co-owner and operator of Tom Sansing Grocery and Gas. She is survived by four sons, James Arnold Sansing of Bessemer City, Thomas Sansing Jr. of Gastonia, Ken Sansing of Kings Mountain, and Ted Sansing of the home; two daughters, Susan Queen of Laguna Niguel, CA and Martha Sansing of Kings Mountain; three sisters, Iona Putnam and Margaret Handsel of Mt. Holly and Betty Treece of Belmont; four grandchil- dren, Tim Moses of Bessemer City; Sherri Bolt of Denver, CO, Susie Caldwell of Gastonia, and Jacob Sansing of Kings Mountain; one great-grandchild, Tabatha Moses of Gastonia; and two step great- grandchildren, Chris and Justin Caldwell of Lincolnton. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Wayne Kirk Thursday at 3 p.m. at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Westview - Gardens Cemetery, Bessemer City. Pallbearers will be Richard Handsel, Everett Grigg, William Toney Jr., Mitchell Handsel, Tim Moses and Gene Toney. Honorary pallbearer will be Bobby Christopher Jr. REBECCA BAILES HAMRICK Mrs. Rebecca Bailes Hamrick, 61, 2104 Robyn Avenue, Shelby, died May 22, 1996 at her home. A native of York, SC, she was the daughter of the late Tom and © Mary Neely Bailes. She was a. weaver with Doran Textiles and a member of First Wesleyan Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Sam Bailes. She*is survived by her sons, Roger Bailes and Dean Bailes of Kings Mountain and Tommy Hamrick of Shelby; brothers, Roy Bailes of Shelby, Jesse Bailes of Rutherfordton, Charles Bailes of Hickory and Ben Bailes of Shelby; sisters, Grace Hyder of Shelby, Ann Orr of Charleston, SC, Lucille Robinson of Shelby, Martha Bailes of Anderson, SC, Betty Raines of Shelby, Kathryn Sailors of Shelby, Della Price of Shelby, and Doris Jones of Shelby; and fur grandchil- dren. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. : HOPE HOWELL Hope Muzzleman Howell, 71, 404 Tate Terrace, Kings Mountain, died May 23; 1996 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Spanishburg, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Tyler and Maude Caldwell Muzzleman. Her first husband was the late Wallace Tracy, and her sec- ond husband was the late Frank Slater. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal faith. She is survived by two sons, Jerry and daughter-in-law Ruth Tracy of Midland, and Junior and daughter-in-law Camilla Tracy of Shelby; twa daughters, Carol Farmer of Kings Mountain and Brenda Marshburn of Shelby; two brothers, Wesyln Muzzleman of Basin, W. Va., and Warren Muzzleman of Bandy, Va.; 25 grandchildren and 19 great-grand- children. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. C.D. Webb Sunday at 2 p.m. at Harris Memorial Chapel. GWU School of Divinity sets dependency workshop The Gardner-Webb University School of Divinity will host a workshop entitled Ministering to the Chemically Dependent July 15- 18. The workshop features Dr. John T. Edwards, author of Treating Chemically Depending Families: A Practical Systems Approach for Professionals. Edwards is an ad- junct professor for Duke University and has served as a trainer and consultant for a variety of helping agencies. Also speaking at the fifth annual workshop will be two other es- teemed practitioners: Dr. Frieda F. Brown, associate professor of psy- chology at GWU and a psycholo- gist with Family Psychological Services in Shelby, and Steve Sumerel, director of the Department of Family Life and Substance Abuse for the Council on Christian Life and Public Affairs of the North Carolina Baptist State Convention. The workshop will focus on the dynamics of addiction, the church's role, the chemically dependent family, children and adolescents, counseling skills and issues for the future. Mayor Scott Neisler presented “Certificates of appreciation to the -.volunteers ‘and a plaque of appreci- ation‘to Rev. Hal Schwantes, chair- - man of the Crisis Ministry. Becky Lineberger, Director of the Ministry, gave gifts to all the volunteers. She reported that food, clothing, and financial assistance totalling $15,000 were distributed to 450 individuals and families during the first four months of 1996. Rev. Schwantes thanked the vol- unteers and churches and organiza- tions_represented for the support in time, talent and treasure. Steve Wallace of Kelly's Chapel Methodist Church and a musical selection or skit from each of the participating churches. Participants are invited to take a bag supper of fruit, cookies, chips and sandwiches and enjoy home- made ice cream for dessert. Since seating is limited, those at- tending are asked to take a folding lawn chair.
