Miss Scarborough is a 1992 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and is a student at Belmont Abbey College. She is employed by Branch Banking & Trust in Charlotte. The bridegroom-to-be is a 1988 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and is a student at Gaston College. He is employed by the City of Kings Mountain Fire Department and is also a member of the Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department. The wedding will be an event of June 22. Open Gate Garden Club ends year with luncheon Fifteen members of the Open Gate Garden Club cul- minted a year of activities with a luncheon at Chantilly Tea Room in Gastonia May 22. A pretty potted dwarf petunia in various colors marked each guest's place. Hostesses were Mrs. Menzell Phifer, Mrs. Eugene Roberts and Mrs. Bruce Boyles. Mrs. Eugene McCarter, president, welcomed mem- bers and conducted a short business meeting. Mrs. Sam Collins and Mrs. Charles Baird, who were among the 250 garden club members from across the state attending the state garden club convention in New Bern May 6-9, reported that Mary Louise Michie, national president, was the keynote banquet speaker. On May 9 all members were invited to take a tour of the Elizabethtown Gardens. The local club was one of three clubs named an honor club in District 3. Gifts were presented to Mrs. Paul McGinnis, Mrs. Sam Collins, Mrs. Charles Baird and Mr. Robert Davies for perfect attendance. Door prizes were won by Mrs. Norman McGill and Mrs. Eugene Roberts. Spectrum drops in "100" ranking Spectrum Dyed Yarns Inc. dropped 11 positions in rank, from No. 32 in 1995 to No. 43 in 1996, in the ranking.of North Carolina's largest closely held 100 companies by Arthur Andersen, which report- ed total revenues for the 1996 North Carolina 100 increased six percent to $15.7 billion, up from $14.7 billion in 1994. The report showed, however, a three percent decrease in overall employment of the 100 companies from 1995. -* The Charlotte company ranks re- sponding companies according to their 1995 year-end revenues. The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John W. Gladden of Kings Mountain and Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Jernigan of Bells, Tn. The bride- groom-to-be is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Warren of Shelby and the late Mr. and Mrs. Holmes Bryson of Asheville. Miss Jernigan is currently living in Raleigh where she is employed by the Wake County Public Schools as an itinerant teacher for the hearing impaired. She is a 1991 graduate of Independence High School, Charlotte, and a December 1995 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a B.S. in Deaf Education. The bridegroom-to-be is employed by Kings Mountain District Schools as a third grade teacher at North Elementary Teacher where he was 1996 Teacher of the Year. He is a 1988 graduate of Crest High School in Shelby and a 1994 cum laude graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education. The couple met at Paramount's Carowinds where they worked as ride supervisors at the Scooby Doo lo- cation. They began dating on November 13, 1993. A July 13 wedding at 11 a.m. at Mount Harmony Baptist Church in Matthews is planned..Afterithe wed- ding the couple will make their home in Kings Mountain. "Reading is the Name of the Game" is the theme which will pre- sent special awards for readers who earn eight team points this summer. A tug-o-war between kids in the program and adult community leaders will feature closing day ex- ercises at 6 p.m. "This program offers incentives for children ages 3-11 to enjoy books and we encourage everyone to read more this summer and en- joy it," said Sanders.
