3 Church Briefs REV. ROBERT HAYNES Temple Baptist honors pastor Temple Baptist Church pastor Rev. Robert Haynes was honored on his fifth anniversary with the church Sunday. The congregation took the occa- sion to give the popular preacher a love offering and to honor the fam- ily at a covered dish luncheon after the morning worship hour. Haynes came to Kings Mountain from Love Memorial Baptist Church in Gastonia on April 7, 1991. Before accepting the Gaston pastorate he served as pastor of Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Ellenboro. A graduate of Mars Hill College, Fruitland Bible Institute and Southeastern Seminary at Wake Forest University, he accepted the call to preach at age 25. "I was employed at the time in retail sales and one day at work I answered the call to the ministry," said Haynes who follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, retired Presbyterian minister Rev. Vance Baucom of Rockingham. Haynes is the son of George and Mary Haynes of Charlotte. He is married to Wanda Clark Haynes and they have one daughter, Kristy, 16. In Kings Mountain Haynes is a past president of the Kings Mountain Ministerial Association and has served on the board of the Kings Mountain Crisis Ministry and on the strategy planning com- mittee of the Kings Mountain Baptist Association. The congregation recently reno- vated the church steeple and in- stalled a chime system. Holy Ghost revival set at Calvary Way A Holy Ghost revival will be held June 6-8 at 7 p.m. at Calvary Way Holiness Church, 310 Long Branch Road, Kings Mountain. John Savage will be the evange- list. There will be special singing each night. Rev. Clifton Morgan, pastor, in- vites the public. Special service set at Cherokee Street Cherokee Street Baptist Church will have a special service Sunday, June 9 at 11 a.m. Bobby Bolin will be the preacher. There will also be special singing. The public is invited. Gospel singing set at Allen Memorial There will be a gospel singing June 9 at 7 p.m. at Allen Memorial Baptist Church, Long Branch Road, Grover. Featured group will be The Damascus Road Quartet. "Seven" to perform at First Wesleyan "Seven" will perform a full con- cert Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship service at First Wesleyan Church. The group, formerly The Regals, will also sing during the Rally Day program at the Sunday School hour at 9:45 a.m. After the service, lunch will be served in the fellowship hall. First Wesleyan Church Bible School June 17-21 First Wesleyan Church will have Vacation Bible School June 17-21 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Games, crafts, songs, skits, pup- pets and Bible study will be held each night. Anyone planning to ride the church van to and from Bible School should call the church at 739-4266. Bible School slated at Dixon Presbyterian Vacation Bible School will be held Monday-Friday, June 10-14 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Dixon Presbyterian Church, 602 Dixon School Road, Kings Mountain. There will be classes for preschool through adult. The Nightingales to present concert The Voices of Galilee presents in concert "The Nightingales" from Springfield Baptist Church, Stanley, Saturday, June 15 at 7 p.m. at Galilee United Methodist Church, 117 Galilee Church Road, Kings Mountain. Supper, gospel sing at Piedmont Baptist Piedmont Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, will have a poor man's supper and gospel singing Saturday, June 8 beginning at 4 p.m. Donations will be accepted.
