it Sy —— ~ Paae 10B - THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD - Thursday, June 13. 1996 School Briefs Big band concert set Sunday at Cleveland Cleveland Community College will host the annual Father's Day Big Band Concert June 16 at 2:30 p.m. in the college's Student Activities Center. Frank Love and the CCC Orchestra will perform what has been an annual treat for fans of big band music. Selected pieces will include favorites from the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Artie Shaw Orchestra, Court Basie Orchestra and Benny Goodman Orchestra. According to Love, the concert will include ballads, romantic mu- sic as well as swing, melodies and excellent vocalists. This year's concert will be held in memory of Dan Jarvis, who died in the recent airline tragedy in Florida. Jarvis was the orchestra's pianist. Admission is $5 and children age 12 and under will be admitted free. Proceeds will support the CCC Foundation. For more information, call Dr. Dottie McIntyre at 484-4025. KMHS Class of 1981 plans 15-year reunion The Kings Mountain High School Class of 1981 is making plans for its 15-year reunion. Reunion committee members are collecting names and addresses and will be contacting class members. James Jeffery Downey graduates Wake Forest James Jeffery Downey of 900 Rhodes Avenue, Kings Mountain, received a Bachelor of Arts degree during recent commencement exer- cises at Wake Forest University. Baldonado, Mayse earn scholarships Lee Baldonado, 1996 graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High, and Marie Mayse, student at Lenoir-Rhyne College, have been selected by St. Matthews Lutheran Church as the 1996 recipients for the St. Matthews Benevolent Foundation Scholarships to Lenoir- Rhyne College. The funds for the amount of each scholarship award will be forwarded to Lenoir-Rhyne College to assist Lee in his enter- ing freshman year and Marie in her finishing senior year. The scholar- ship funds are administered by St. Matthews Benevolent Foundation Endowment Fund whereby the principal remains intact and the in- come is used for benevolences and outreach programs as the Church Council directs. In addition to the St. Matthews Scholarship, Lee Baldonado has al- so been awarded the Martin Luther Scholarship by Lenior-Rhyne. Marie Mayse has also recieived the St. Matthews Scholarship for her freshman, sophomore and junior years at Lenoir-Rhyne. Lee is the son of Ms. Karen Baldonado, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Howell, and the great- grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cline. Marie is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Scott Mayse. SCHOLARSHIP WINNER - Autumn Edsall, graduating senior at Kings Mountain High School, is re- cipient of the Cleveland County School Food Service Association scholarship for $300. She is the daughter of Becky and Steve Edsall and plans to attend Lenoir-Rhyne College and become an occupation- al therapist. Autumn, president of the KMHS Chapter of Students Against Violence Everywhere, ac- cepted a $100 donation from the or- ganization for the chapter. Area students make dean's list at NCSU North Carolina State University Chancellor Larry K. Monteith has announced that 3,541 undergradu- ate students earned dean's list hon- ors at NC State during the spring semester. To make the list, students must earn an academic average of 3.25 or higher if they are carrying 15 or more hours of course work, or 3.5 or higher if they are carrying 12 to 14 hours.
