The event will be held prior to the Shelby-Burns football game, from 5 p.m. to kickoff. Pancakes and sausage with delicious maple syrup, Carolina Dairy milk and hot coffee will be served. Ticket prices are $3.50 and may be purchased at the door or from any member of the Kiwanis Club. Proceeds go to help support the Kiwanis Children's Christmas Project, Cleveland Memorial Hospital Foundation Scholarships, YMCA Sponsorship of Key Clubs and Kiwanettes, Kiwanis Terrific Kids Program, Hospice - Yount Life, and many other charities. Macedonia Baptist homecoming is Sunday Homecoming will be held Sunday at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1101 South Battleground Avenue, Kings Mountain. : The morning worship will in- clude testimonies and special music. The theme will be "What Macedonia Means to Me." The public is invited. Yard, hot dog sale set at EKM Church of God There will be a yard sale and hot dog sale Saturday, September 21 at 8 a.m. at East Kings Mountain Church of God, located on Highway 161 across from WKMT Radio. The public is invited. Former First Lady Bush to visit in Gaston County Literacy advocate and former first lady Barbara Bush will visit Gaston County September 25 to recognize local efforts to combat literacy. Her visit is part of the Gaston Literacy Council's annual meet- ing and volunteer recognition, where she will be the keynote speaker. Also speaking. will be «Dr. Bob Laubach, an educator and=diter cate parents developed the popular Laubach method of one-on-one literacy tutoring. The meeting will be held at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center from 2-4 p.m. Tickets are $25 and area available to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Hospice to conduct volunteer training Hospice of Cleveland County will be conducting volunteer training classes at the new Hospice office, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, begin- ning Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 6:15- 8:30 p.m. Classes will continue on consecutive Tuesday nights through Tuesday, Nov. 5. Hospice volunteer training is open to anyone who is interest- ed in learning more about Hospice and the services pro- vided to the community. No fee is charged to take the class and you are under no obligation to volunteer with Hospice. However, all participants are in- vited to become a part of the Hospice volunteer program. A number of opportunities are available, including office work and direct contact with patients and families. She received Student of the Month three times while attend- _ ing Progressive Hairstyling Academy, and also was named to the President's List each quarter for maintaining a 4.0 grade point average the entire time she was in school. Sheila also was presented with the cer- tificate of Honor for Outstanding Achievement. Sheila plans on returning to Progressive and Cleveland College to get her teaching de- gree in Cosmetology. Red Ribbon Dinner to aid Gaston agencies The Sumner Group will spon- sor a "Red Ribbon Dinner for Friends" Friday, Sept. 20 from 11 am.-2 p.m. at the Sumner Group parking lot, located be- tween the courthouse and Main Street (Love Building Parking Lot), Gastonia.
