JOHN PAUL MATHIS (Catherine Page Moreau) Moreau-Mathis University Presbyterian Church in Chapel Hill was the setting Saturday for the wedding of Catherine Page Moreau and John Paul Mathis. The Rev. Robert E. Dunham officiated the cere- mony for which Dr. Wiley S. Quinn was organist and Stephen Lytle was trumpeter. Dr. David Humphreys Moreau gave his daughter in marriage. She wore her mother's for- mal wedding gown. Laurie Grace Ballenger of Washington, DC was maid of honor and bridesmaids were Cynthia Hutton Ferrell of Richmond, Va. and Amy Allison Moreau of Raleigh. The three attendants wore green taffeta sheath gowns of Hunter green topped with a green vel- vet jacket. Child attendant was Kelley Allison Mathis. Dr. Charles Ray Mathis of Houston, TX was best man. Groomsmen were Christopher James Canfield of Chapel Hill, Richard Pugh Davis of Houston, TX, David Stewart Moreau of Raleigh and Joseph Thomas Ruzicka of Milwaukee, WI. The bride's parents entertained after the cere- mony at a reception at Carolina Inn. Mary Mathis and James Davis hosted the re- hearsal dinner Friday evening at Chapel Hill Country Club. RUSSELL PUTNAM ..on 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 30,1996 Kings Mountain's Micheal Wilson has lead role in "The Nutcracker "The Nutcracker," a classical holiday ballet, will feature Kings Mountain student Micheal Wilson in the title role December 13-15 by Gaston Dance Theatre at Myers Park Center Auditorium - Gaston College. Experience the magic of Christmas as the stage sparkles with stunning sets, swirling snowflakes and whimsical char- acters. A junior at Kings Mountain High School, Micheal, 16, is in his third season with Gaston Dance Theatre. He is the son of Jeep and Tonya Wilson of Kings Mountain and has one brother, Adam. He is the grandson of Furman and Margaret Wilson and Dick and Helen Sisk and great-grandson of Charlie and Eula Mae Cobb, all of Kings Mountain. At KMHS Micheal is active in the Kings Mountain Band, Pep Band, Beta Club, French Club and Science Club. He is also an avid clarinet player and was first chair in the state of North 7% Matthews ef5clk, Carolina last year. Micheal has spent two sum- mers at the North Carolina School of the Arts studying un- der Duncan Noble and Adam Miller. For the past two sum- mers he has received full schol- arships to the Houston Ballet Academy where he had the op- portunity to train with Ben Stevenson, Artistic Director for the Houston Ballet. Also featured in the large cast is Marlowe Higginbotham, 10, daughter of John and Punkin Higginbotham of Grover and a fourth grader at Montessori School in Bessemer City. Marlowe has a sister, Sissy Morgan, and a brother, Brandon Morgan. She is a piano student of Linda Dixon and is active in First Presbyterian Church and has worked with the Little Theatre in numerous produc- tions. In scene two, Clara, played by Barbara Yarbro, dreams she is being terrified by the Mouse King. Micheal as the Nutcracker goes’ to battle against the Mouse King. When the battle is won Micheal be- comes the Nutcracker Prince. Then Clara and the Prince are entertained. After the magical dances, Micheal carries Clara back home where memories of he wonderful dream adventure will always remain in every- one's heart. Tickets are available at Belk's at Eastridge Mall. DIXIE VILLAGE Putnams honored at family dinner on their 50th wedding anniversary The children and grandchildren of B. Russell Putnam and Maxine Short Putnam held a family dinner in honor of their 50th wedding anniver- sary November 30. ’ The couple met at Patterson Grove Baptist Church where they are still active members. They were married on November 30, 1946 at the home of the bride. They have four children and 10 grandchildren. Their children are Roger D. Putnam and wife Libby, Gerald E. Putnam and wife Stella; Debbie P. Van Dyke and husband Richard, all of Kings Mountain, and Teresa P. LeMaster and Haile of Gaffney, SC. Grandchildren are Laura Putnam, Jim Putnam, Susan Putnam, Lee Putnam, Russell Putnam, Jordan Van Dyke, Meredith Van Dyke, all of Kings Mountain, and Katie Falls, Hunter Falls and Sara Beth LeMaster of Gaffney, SC. The Putnams have lived on Oak Grove Road all their married life. A reception in their honor will be held at a later date.
