A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Ralph and Sally Neal Early. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Bennett Early, and a brother,’ Hugh Early. , He was a member of First Wesleyan Church, Kings Mountain, and attended Patterson Grove Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. He was retired from Foote Mineral Corporation as a heavy equip- ment operator. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict, and earning several Service Awards. He was a member of V.EW. Post 9811 and AMerican Legion Post 155 in Kings Mountain. He is survived by his wife, Ruth P. Early of Kings Mountain; daughter, Nancy Hoyle of Kings Mountain; step- sons, Dale Putnam of Clover, SC and Phillip Putnam, Gene Putnam, Terry Putnam, Roy Putnam and Dennis Putnam, all of Kings Mountain; two grand- children and a number of step- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. Terry Bird and Richard Plyler Sunday at 2 p.m. at Patterson Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Bobby Lee Wells, 64, 203 East Washington Avenue, Bessemer City, died November 29, 1996 at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Eva Mae Crook Wells and the late William A. Wells Sr. He attend- ed Cornerstone Baptist Church and was former pastor of King James Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Betty Smith Wells of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Wanda Wells of Bessemer City and Rev. Dennis and Carol Wells of Kings Mountain; sons, Bobby Wells and Brian Wells of Bessemer City; daughters and sons-in- law, Rena and Tony Robinson and Cindi and Tony Glenn of Kings Mountain; brothers, William A. Wells Jr. of Bessemer City, Jimmy P. Wells Sr. of Kings Mountain and Joe L. Wells of Cherryville; sisters, Margie Harmon and Maude Colvin of Bessemer City and Kathline Stewart and Tressie Bridges of Cherryville; 13 grandchildren, Nikki Jones, Mike Jones, Jason Wells, J.J. Wells, Keisha Turner, Brent Turner, Kim Wells, K.J. Wells, Kasie Ray, Kayla Lanier Wells, Christy Brooks, Bryan Brooks, and Anthony Glenn II; and three grandchildren, Dylan - Jones, Matthew Wells Turner and Ryan Turner. He was pre- ceded in death by one grand- child, Bobby Jean Wells. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. Kevin Mathis and Jerry Millwood Sunday at 2 p-m. at Westview Baptist Church. Burns, 87, of Kings Mountain, died December 3, 1996 at Kings Mountain Hospital. He was the son of the late William Asbury and Lucy Anna Burns of Ft. Payne, Alabama, and husband of the late Ethel Mae Burns. He was also preced- ed in death by his brother, Hulon Burns of Chattanooga, TN. He is survived by six sons and their wives: Thurman and Jewel Burns of Cleveland, Kenneth and Mavis Burns, James and Joy Burns, Charles and Linda Burns, and Frank and Kathy Burns, all of Kings Mountain, and Tommy and Robin Burns of Shelby; five daughters and their husbands, Barbara Burns, Nancy and Charles Wright, Kathy and Ronnie James, all of Gastonia, Judy and Terry Bowen of Kings Mountain, and Glenda and Johnnie Terry of Blacksburg, SC; a brother, M.D. Burns of Chickamauga, GA; two sisters, Vera Westbrook of Marietta, GA. and Dean ‘Oates of Crossville, TN; 31 grandchil- dren, 29 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchil- dren. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. at Friday at Harris Funeral Home Chapel. The body will be placed in the Chapel 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. EVELYN DAVIS Evelyn Hull Davis, 74, #9 Battle Forest Apartment, Kings Mountain, died Saturday, November 30, 1996 at Grand Strand Hospital, Myrtle Beach, SC. A native of Ranlo, she was the daughter of the late John S. and Grace Davis Hull and wife of the late George Lucius Davis. She was' a retired bookkeeper for Lyon Electric Company in Miami, FL, and former dietician for Dade County School System, Miami, FL. She was a member of Wayside Baptist Church, Miami, and served on the board of directors of the Miami Branch of the Florida Baptist Childrens Home. She was a member of Oak View Baptist = Church, Kings Mountain. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. W. Shuford and Faye B. Davis of Tallahassee, FL; brother, J.W. Hull of Kings Mountain; and sister, Mrs. Margaret Taylor of Kings Mountain. The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Ralph Sparrow and Robbie Moore Friday at 11 a.m. at Oak View Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia.
