Obituaries HOWARD PURSLEY James Howard Pursley, 92, 200 South Watterson Street, Kings Mountain, died Saturday, December 28, 1996 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of York County, SC, he was the son of the late J. Meek and Emma McGill Pursley and widower of the late Clara Beatrice Herndon Pursley. He was a member of Boyce - Memorial ARP Church and was a retired textile employee. He is survived by his son, James William Pursley of Red Wing, MN; sister, Evelyn Pursley Hambright of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Doug Peterson Tuesday, December 31 at 3 p.m. at Boyce Memorial ARP Church. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. JACK DORSEY Al "Jack" Dorsey, 65, 215 C.V. Alexander Road, Kings Mountain, died December 27, 1996 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late James and Nora Holt Dorsey. He was employed by Food Lion in West Gastonia, was a former employ- ee of Rex Mills, Ranlo, and was a retired carding supervisor for Burlington Industries. He was a member of Rustic Hills Baptist Church. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Debra Dorsey of Kings Mountain; brothers and sister-in-law, Garfield and Normie Dorsey and Charlie Dorsey of Gastonia; sisters and brother-in-law, Zelma and Lonnie Kelly of Bessemer City and Martha Barnette of Gastonia; and two granddaughters, Michelle and Kimberly Dorsey of Kings Mountain. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. H.J. Moose and Lonnie Kelly Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rustic Hills Baptist Church. Burial was in Westview Gardens, Bessemer City. HERMAN SPARKS Charles Herman Sparks, 71, 1009 Sherwood Lane, Kings Mountain, died Sunday, December 29, 1996 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Robert Lewis and Ebber Bostic Sparks. He was a mem- ber of First Baptist Church, was a retired textile employee, and served in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Chloe Lynn Sparks; son, Chuck Sparks of Burlington; daughter, Karen Plonk of Clemson, SC; brothers, Jim Sparks of Ellenboro and Paul "Toby" Sparks of Elon College; sisters, Betty Splawn of Boiling Springs, Virginia Godfrey and Elizabeth Earls of Charlotte, Clemmie Winkler of Lenoir, and Mavorine Jenkins of Spindale; and four grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by Dr. John Sloan Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Burial was in the church ceme- tery. He was retired from Norcomp Limited Partnership in Gastonia, was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a member of Piedmont Baptist Church. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late I.M. and Maude Weathers Allen. He was retired with over 30 years of service as Sheriff of Cleveland County. He was a member of First Baptist Church, charter member of the Kings Mountain Lions Club, charter member of the Shelby Optimist Club, Past President of the N.C. Sheriff's Association and earned national recognition for his involvement in law enforcement. He is survived by his wife, Majel Stewart Allen; son, John Haywood "Woody" Allen Jr. and wife Rhonda of Shelby; daughters, Kathryn Monroe of Shelby and Jonanna Robbs and husband James of Shelby; brothers, Aaron M. Allen of Warrenton, and Wiley Allen and Irvin M. "Tootie" Allen Jr., both of Kings Mountain; sisters, Adelaide A.
