Obituaries HAROLD ADAMS MT. HOLLY - Harold Adams, 71, 121 Sadler Road, formerly of Kings Mountain, died January 27, 1997 at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late George Lee and Bessie Caldwell Adams. He was re- tired owner of Harold Adams T.V. Service for over 40 years, was a former police officer with Mt. Holly Police Department, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War 11. He is survived by his wife, Bessie Lanier Adams of Mt. Holly; daughter and son-in-law, Linda Adams Bell and Ted Bell of Mt. Holly; three grandchil- dren, Elaine and Gene Anderson of Denver, James B. and Tamela Bell of Gastonia, and Rodney and Barbara Bell of Mt. Holly; and four great- grandchildren, Benjamin Dellinger, Jon Bell, Meredith Bell and Marcus Bell. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Clarence V. Morris at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harris Memorial Chapel in Kings Mountain. Interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain. Memorials may be made to North Main Baptist Church, Mt. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Lafayette and Orangrel Barrett Jolly. She was employed by the Recreation Department of the City of Gastonia, and was a member of Boyce Memorial . ARP Church. HEYWARD WARLICK KINGS MOUNTAIN - Heyward Plato Warlick, 82, 107 Coram Avenue, Booneville, died January 23, 1997 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Abrom Plato and Texie Smith Warlick. He was retired : owner of Carolina’ Transport, and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Hicks Warlick of Booneville; and two sisters, Lallage Holtschulte of Kings Mountain and Avis Gill of Lake Wales, Florida. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. BARBARA DUBEAU BLACKSBURG, SC - Barbara Marcell Bailey Dubeau, 64, of White Oak Manor, Shelby, died Thursday, January 23, 1997 at White Oak Manor. A native of Spartanburg, SC, she was the widow of the late Edward Dubeau and daughter of the late Ernest and Ophelia Landreth Bailey. She was a re- tired waitress, and a Baptist. She is survived by two sons, Charles Blackburn of Gaffney and Joey Price of Soddy Daisy, TN; three daughters, Frances Johnson of Gaffney, Sue Murray Trent of Kings Mountain and Katie Myrenaes of Holly Springs, NC; two brothers, George Bailey and Bill Bailey of Spartanburg; a sister, Edith Mayberry of Spartanburg; 11 grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. VALLIE HILL KINGS MOUNTAIN ~ Valiie Campbell Hill, 93, a resident of White Oak Manor, died January 23, 1997 at White Oak Manor. A native of Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Lucius and Mary Katherine Dowell Campbell, and wife of the late Thomas Vernon Hill. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Katherine Hill Ramsey. She was a retired sales clerk from Matthews-Belk in Gastonia, and was a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church in Dallas. She is survived by her grand- children, Charles and Nadine - Ramsey of Kings Mountain and Mary Beth and John Moore of Hickory; and great-grandchil- dren, Carla and David Ramsey of Kings Mountain and Stow Moore of Hickory. She is survived by her son, Harry Kyle, a former Kings Mountain police officer; and sis- ter, Agnes Jenkins of Asheville. The funeral will be held at 3 p-m. Box 1792, Kings Mountain, NC 28086. GETTY DAVIS GASTONIA - Getty Hartman Davis, 97, recently of Gastonia, died January 28, 1997 at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Davis will be held at 2:30 p-m. January 30 at Covenant United Methodist Church, Gastonia, where she was a member for many years. Rev. Charles Halipilias and Rev. Ralph Kaylor will officiate. The body will lie in state in the sanctuary from 1:30-2:30 p-m., during which time the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall. A private graveside service will follow at Gaston Memorial Park. Mrs. Davis was born July 29, 1899 in Cleveland County, the daughter of the late Quincy and Elizabeth Johnson Hartman. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, William E and Eunice Davis of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren, Anne Marie Davis of Greensboro, Gregg Davis of Salisbury and Cindy Tuttle of Kings Mountain; two sisters and four brothers, Ruth Anthony of Vale, Vera Glenn, Theodore Hartman and Jake Hartman of Belwood, Swain Hartman of Vale, and Bryan Hartman of Toluca; and three step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Davis; a daughter, Ruth Davis _...Stephenson; grandson, William, ~ F. Davis Jr; her parents, three sisters and two brothers. Grover woman dies of injuries A Grover woman was killed Sunday night when she appar- ently opened the door of a mov- ing vehicle and fell out. Trooper R. L. Cochran of the N. C. Highway Patrol identified the victim as Wendy Laverne McDaniel Neville, 31, of 1207 Lavender Road. She was a pas- senger in a 1995 Dodge pickup truck operated by Bobby Panther, 53, of 1207 Lavender Road. The accident happened on Davis Road one mile south of Patterson Springs at 9:10 p.m,, according to Cochran who said Cleveland County EMS trans- ported Neville to Cleveland Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Cochran said the right wheel of the truck struck Neville's head. THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD January 30, 1997 Landscaping to begin at White Oak Manor Weather permitting, contrac- tors will begin work this week on a $48,000 landscaping project at White Oak Manor. _ City Council Tuesday night after a public hearing took the Planning Board's recommenda-- tion to rezone from residential to conditional use the 4.4 acres owned by the nursing home on Sipes Street. City planning director Steve Killian said the application's text and site plan exceeds the minimum requirements of the new zoning ordinance in sever- al areas. Gene White, former city planner and representative of the nursing home, said the facility had shown it is a good neighbor to the adjoining resi- dents who had opposed the ex- pansion initially, citing noise, traffic congestion and decline of property values. White, Administrator Jane Alexander, Killian, Susan Lovelace, adjoining property owner and planning board member Lou Ballew, and plan- ning board chairman M. C. Pruette spoke in favor of the ex- pansion. Ballew said the White Oak application is a landmark case for the city, the first to be considered for conditional Tise under under the city's new zon- ing ordinance. "This has been a new process and different,” she said. Lovelace praised the facility and city fathers for taking a step to help alzheimer patients in Kings Mountain. She said her father was a patient in a facility in Asheville for 18 months be- fore his death and she and her family drove the distance.
