RD. February 6, BLUE RIBBON WINNERS - Lou Ballew, Ruth Mayhew and Lavon Smith were among first place winners in the Woman's Club Arts & Crafts Festival Monday. Mayhew was the top winner with 17 blue ribbons. Mayhew wins 17 awards in Arts and Crafts Festival Ruth Mayhew won 17 first place awards and four red rib- bons to top the awards present- ed at the 1997 Kings Mountain Woman's Club Arts and Crafts - Festival Monday night. Mayhew won blue ribbons for snake bone jewelry, Indian beading, Swedish weave em- broidery, painting on a sweater, - soft sculpture of a toy rabbit, quilted small pillow, small knit- ting, burlap work, a table cen- terpiece, basket craft, can- dlewick pillow, small crochet; . hooked rug, plastic canvas and smocked pillow. She took second place for cro- cheting a large tablecloth, quilt- ing, knitted sweater and ceram- ics. First place awards also went to Helen Ayscue who won two blue ribbons for counted crossstitch and ceramics; Lavon Smith for a crocheted Afghan; Lou Ballew for a knitted sweater; Jessie Collins for a quilt and Peggy Baird for needlepoint. Selena Trott took a second place award for basket craft and Smith took a third place award for a large quilt. In the Literature division of the show Mayhew took two first place awards for her short story and poem and Pat Childers won four blue ribbons for clubwoman art, including watercolor, pencil, graphics and mixed media. Kathy Dixon and Mary Pat Eldridge presented the ribbons. . Members of the Arts Department were hostesses for the meeting. They are Selena Trott, chairman; Mary Pat Elledge, vice-chairman; Ruth Mayhew, Kathy Dixon, Nancy Ross, Jo Ann Sherer and Martha Sloan. Helen Ayscue prepared the refreshments which were served from a festive table to nearly 100 people who attended the club meeting and awards program. Birthdays | Abbie Lynch Abbie Lynch was four years old January 23.-A party -was held Saturday, Jan. 25 at the home of her grandparents, Conley and Debbie Taylor. Hot dogs, cake and ice cream were served to family and friends. An Esmerelda theme was car- ried throughout the party from the party hats to the loot bags that were given to her friends. Guests ‘included Kalie Deaton, Lea and Lydi Zwick, and Elizabeth Baker, all of Kings Mountain. Abbie is the daughter of Jason and Michelle Lynch of Kings Mountain. Grandparents are Conley and Debbie Taylor of Kings Mountain, Steve Lynch of Kings Mountain, and Rebecca Mack of Florida. She is Wil Sellers Wil Sellers celebrated his sec- ond birthday December 7 at his home. Wil was presented gifts by family and friends. Wil is the son of Rodney and Beth Sellers. He has a brother, Hogan, who is 5 1/2. He is the grandson of Bill and Brenda Sellers, Larry and Linda Ellison, all of Kings Mountain. Wil is the great-grandson of Alma Sellers of Kings Mountain and Velma Nash of Greenville, SC. A bascball theme was used. Lyndsey Baity Lyndsey Taylor Baity was born January 6, 1997 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. She weighed nine pounds, 4 1/2 ounces and was 21 inches long. Parents are Shane and Pamela Price Baity of Kings Mountain. She has two brothers, Daniel Nelms and Billy Nelms. Maternal grandparents are Bill. ‘and. Helen Price’ of Bessemer City and Art and Jo Ann Baity of Kings Mountain. Great-grandmother is Eloise Baity. the great-granddaughter of Raymond and Mildred Mack of Gastonia, Glenn Dellinger of South Carolina, and Magpaggt Dellinger of Kings Mountain.
