signed a football scholarship
with North Carolina A&T
University Wednesday after-
noon at the KMHS principal's
office.
Coaches from A&T were in
Kings Mountain's girls finished second and the
boys third in the annual Southwestern 3A
Conference swimming championship Wednesday
at Neisler Natatorium. :
Shelby won both divisions. The Lady Lions
won with 412 points to 262 for KM, 188 for East
Rutherford, 158 for R-S Central and 46 for North

Surratt, a 6-5, 280-pound
tackle, is regarded as a top
prospect who could start as a
freshman.
"He is just a great athlete for
an offensive lineman and a kid
his size," said his high school
coach, Ron Massey. "He's been
best times of the year, The girls' 200 free relay
team consisting of Elizabeth Mauney, Bethany
Jimison, Wendy Neisler and Elise Mayse broke
the school record with a time of 1:56.71.
Kings Mountain's boys got first place finishes
from Drew Thomas in the 50 free and the 400 free
relay team of Naoki Nishyama, Wes Frye, Jordan
Angeles and Drew Thomas.

recruited offensive lineman,
and I feel like he'll be playing
early in his career. They're not
going to redshirt him."
Surratt was recruited by
A&T's offensive coordinated,
John Eder.
Surratt was a two-year starter
for the Mountaineers, and this
past season helped lead them to
the Southwestern 3-A
Conference title and a 9-1-1
overall record.
"He was one of our most con-
sistent players,” said Massey.
Regional Championships at Davidson College
this week. The diving will be held Thursday and
the swim meet Friday. Swim teams from the
Western part of the state will compete for the op-
portunity to swim in the state championship meet
in Charlotte on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Elizabeth Mauney (50 free, relays), Kristen Miller
