seo rere February 13, 1997 : Wedding THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD © Hellstrand-Plonk Mr. and Mrs. Carl Neisler Plonk, who were wed December 22, 1996, are residing at 313 West Gold Street, the restored 1912 home of the bride- groom's grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Oates Plonk Sr. Margaret Dye Hellstrand, formerly of Pineville, became Plonk's bride in a ceremony in Central United Methodists Church. Rev. Bob Little, former pastor, assisted by Rev. Harold Schwantes, minister of the church, offici- ated the ceremony which included the lighting of the Unity candle by the bride and bridegroom and their families. Alain Libby Putnam was organist and Schwantes was vocalist for the program of nuptial music. The church was decorated with red and white Christmas poinsettias, candles and Chrismon trees. The bride was escorted by her father and the father of the bridegroom. The children of the cou- ple participated in the wedding. The bride's gown was a a straight-cut floor- length design with beading and pearls at the neckline, across the shoulders and down the back. A fingertip veil was attached to her Camelot cap. She carried red and white roses, stephanotis and Christmas greenery. Eric Hellstrand, 9, Alex Plonk, 8, and Tyler Hellstrand, 7, were ushers and best men. Adrienne Plonk, 4, the flower girl, wore a green velvet dress with a cream-colored satin collar trimmed in Battenberg lace and carried a small basket filled with rose petals. She wore a halo of sweetheart roses. The ushers wore black tuxedos with red accents. The wedding reception after the ceremony was hosted by the bridegroom's parents at their home at 118 North Piedmont Avenue. The newlyweds took a week-long cruise to the Community Calendar MR. AND MRS. CARL NEISLER PLONK (Margaret Dye Hellstrand) Western Caribbean where they visited Cozumel, Mexico, Georgetown, Grand Cayman, British West Indies, Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Key West, Florida. A champagne reception honoring the couple was given the evening before the wedding by Mr. and Mrs. James E. Herndon Jr, and Mr. and Mrs. William Lawrence Jr. at the Herndon home on Garrison Drive. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lynwood Sellers of Jacksonville, Fla. and Mr. and Mrs. William G. Dye of Huntington Beach, California. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Oates Plonk Jr. of Kings Mountain. He is also the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hunter R. Neisler. Engagement GINGER MICHELLE LACKEY CRAIG HAMMETT Lackey-Hammett aro Page 1B Kings Mountain's Esther Muench named Club woman of the Year Kings Mountain Woman's Club President Esther Muench won the Polly Scruggs Moore Clubwoman of the Year Award from District 4 of the N. C. Federation of Women's Club at the an- nual District Four Arts Festival Saturday at the lo- cal clubhouse. The Dallas Woman's Club shared hostess duties for 89 clubwomen from Kings Mountain, Gastonia Junior and Senior, Dallas, Belmont, Tri- City and Fallston. The Kings Mountain clubwomen won the Silver Bowl for the most blue ribbons in the event with Ruth Mayhew leading the award winners with the most blue ribbons, 10, followed by Pat Childers with three blue ribbons, and Lavon Smith, Helen Ayscue, and Lou Ballew, one each. Other red ribbon winners were Jessie Collins and Peggy Baird. Muench and the local club also won the award for the best newsletter. Pages were Linda Dixon, Jessie Collins, Kathy Dixon, Helen Ayscue, Betty Gamble, Ruth Mayhew, Glenda O'Shields, Gail Baber, Selena Trott and Dot Jonas, all of the local club. Mayhew won awards also for a poem and short story and student winners were Angela Davis, essay; Courtney Fredell and Brad Goforth, short story, and Michelle Grigg and Blake Clary, poems. Top awards in painting went to David Black, John Hunter and Jason Payne. District winners among youth were Leigh Ann Atkins and Travis Hinkle, scholarship, and Sarah Kelly and Josh Helms, drama, both of the Gastonia clubs; Ty Morris, Tri City, scholarship, and Molly Blanton, Kings Mountain, alternate; and Brett Wells, drama, and Will Mauney, music, both of Kings Mountain. Susan Carlisle Bell, Assistant Professor of Fine Arts at Gardner-Webb University, led a seminar on "Art History." A program dedication honored Katherine S. Mauncy, formerly of Kings Mountain, District IV president 1941-41 and state president 1956-58. WEDNESDAY: 12 noon - Kings Mountain Board of Realtors at Town and Country BBQ. 12:05 - Lenten service at Resurrection Lutheran Church sponsored by Kings Mountain Ministerial Association. 8 p.m. - Spring musical, opens at Dover University, Boiling Springs. Performances nightly through Feb. 24 with matinee on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. THURSDAY; 12 noon - Kings Mountain Rotary Club at Ramada Limited 6-8 p.m. -Black History pro- gram featuring the singing and drama group, "The Healing Force" at Mauney Memorial Library. 6:30 - Kings Mountain Kiwanis Club at Central United Methodist Church. 7:30 - An evening with the Cleveland Community College "Slightly Off" Central Stage Players, drama, dance and mu- sic in the CCC Auditorium in Ginger Michelle Lackey of Concord and Craig Hammett of Kings Mountain have set a February 15 wedding date. The 4 p.m. ceremony will be held at First Assembly Worship Center in Concord. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth O. Lackey Jr. of Concord and grand: daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilmer Atwell Jr. and Edna Arey, all of Concord. She is a graduate of Central Cabarrus High School and Rowan- Cabarrus Community College with a degree in cosmetology. : The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy S. Hammett of Kings Mountain and the grandson of Viola Hammett of Kings Mountain and Maudie Queen of Gastonia. He is a graduate of Kings Mountain High School and attended Cleveland Community College.
