Cash Nixon, Lowell Quinn and Reggie Turner, seated, left to right. A Valentine exhibit they constructed is in the background. Students worked in an assembly line, cutting, decorating, glu- ing, inspecting and then selling the products with proceeds to the homeless. School Board to vote on spending money District school officials said Monday they will probably make a decision April 7 on how to spend $6.1 million in school construction bond money. Meantime, the full school board will go to Clover, SC March 21 to tour a grades 5-6 school at the invitation of Clover Supt. Billy Floyd. Chairman Ronnie Hawkins said that three public hearings conducted by the board reveal that the public supports a new school for either K-5 or 5-6 stu- dents. Hawkins supports the 5- .6 concept, saying that all fifth graders can be housed in the school and when money is available that the sixth grade can be added. "We've given the community plenty of time to give input and now the decision rests with the board and we need to move ahead with it," said Hawkins. "Spacing is a problem," said board vice-chairman Rev. Billy Houze. But he said there are a lot of myths about safety of sixth graders being housed in the same building with older seventh and eighth graders. — March 13, 1997 ANNEXATION From 1-A lite annexation recently for the City of Henderson which owns property over three miles from its city limits. The mayor is completing the paperwork to send to Rep. Debbie Clary and Rep. John Weatherly to introduce the leg- islation in Raleigh. The mayor said two other bills will be introduced by legis- lators for Kings Mountain. One is a bill to increase the member- ship of the current ABC board from three to five members. The mayor said many people have indicated an interest in serving on the board which is appoint- ed by city council. Another bill would request an extension as far west as Reliance Electric of the city's ex- tra-territorial jurisdiction. This would extend the city from one to two miles and is necessary, he said, due to the city's leader- ship of land use development. AREER EOE RT) 501 FRANKLIN BLVD.
